TERRE HAUTE, Ind. The murder suspect at the center of an hours-long standoff last week broke through the police perimeter and went shopping at Walmart, police tell WTHI.
Michael R. Reynolds, 36, is accused of fatally shooting Amanda Kerns, 40, on March 5 at a home in the 2100 block of Putnam Street. He also shot and critically injured a second person, Ronald Lawrence, at the same location.
Officials believe the shooting was the result of a domestic violence situation.
The shooting led to a 20-hour standoff with dozens of Terre Haute police officers surrounding the home.
However, newly released information by police reveals Reynolds didnt stay in the home throughout the entirety of the standoff. He broke through the police barrier, and he went shopping at Walmart on South U.S. 41, WTHI reports. Video from the store confirms his visit.
Reynolds eventually returned back to the home at the center of the standoff, which Plasse describes as puzzling. But the police chief says hes very thankful he returned.
Reynolds was later shot and killed by state police SWAT officers.

Cloaking device?
It must have been some really awesome frozen food for his last meal.
Marie Callender’s and pizza rolls?
WTF? Over.
Yes, he could. I placed an order on Saturday, around 6 pm. It was delivered Sunday, much to my surprise, by 11 am.
Oh come on! They are just standoff ninja challenged like everybody else.
Who you got in the house. Some guy named Reynolds. Oh that is me. Let me go back in and put my bags down.
I wonder if HE was aware there was a standoff?
If so, WHY WOULD YOU GO BACK?!?!
I don’t know what qualifies as dumber. That the police had a perimeter around the house, but the suspect snuck thru, or that the suspect was dumb enough to come back to the house after his shopping trip to Walmart. It sounds like he was able to sneak back thru the police primer again to get back in the house. I think I have to give the dummer award to the police, although it is a touch call.
Are there any competent police left?!
For starters maybe the Terra Haute PD needs to explain to its officers what a perimeter is.
... Are there any competent police left?!
Do you have to ask?
undoubtedly not a BPV.
Narrator: Joe decided that in order to get out of jail, he would have to use his superior diplomacy skills.
Pvt. Joe Bowers: [talking to the prison guard] Hey, uh... I’m actually supposed to be getting out of jail, not going back in...
Prison Guard #2: [hits Joe on the back of the head] You’re supposed to be in that line, dumbass!
[he points to the door]
Prison Guard #2: Hey, guys, let this dumbass out!
I’ll say it again:
10 years ago: Ha, “Idiocracy” is hilarious!
present: Come ON people, “Idiocracy” is not an instructional video!
10 years from now: What a glorious utopia “Idiocracy” would be.
Broke through? I doubt it. Sneaked through, maybe.
