The scene was one of 'controlled chaos': hundreds of students openly smoking drugs, shot-gunning beer and performing lewd dance moves as the first weekend of Spring Break got underway on Fort Lauderdale's Las Olas Beach.
Others could be seen swigging from bottles of vodka and whiskey or guzzling tequila hidden in water pistols while some had to be helped off the sand after becoming too drunk to stand.
All of that in defiance of a 'zero tolerance policy' towards drugs and alcohol on the beach and a heavy police presence that included K-9 and mounted units.
One local cop told DailyMail.com: 'What you're seeing is controlled chaos. This isn't even a particularly busy day.
'Mostly, what we see is misdemeanor stuff, drunk, fighting stuff. One of them will get out a boom box and they all crowd round it.

I did spring break in Fort Lauderdale in 1968. Extremely mild compared to today
But....but didn’t David Hoggy call on his peers to party hardy elsewhere and boycott the GUNshine state?
Never underestimate the amount of stupidity that can happen in large groups of people.
The women in those photos are not 9s and 10s so there had better be some alcohol involved...
Stupid ideas take on a life of their own.
Like communism for instance.
That little zulu dance or whatever they call it is anything but appealing. It’s so trashy and the young women look like classless trash doing it.
And if they have to do that sort of dance to get some clown to have sex with them, they’re a hog.
It appears like most of the young people in the photos don’t realize the internet is forever.
Many of these people use student loans to pay for this kind of fun. Then they get sad about their debt. And then the want me to pay for the fun they had on the beach.
BWAAAHHHAAA!
TYPICAL COLLEGE MALE: "...Let's see...I am going to go to Ft. Lauderdale for Spring Break, drink lots of alcohol, go to lots of parties, cavort on the sand with girls in bikinis, or...stay at home in Madison, WI to protest over the inaction on banning guns...hmm...this is a hard one..."
One of Grand kids wanted to go on Spring Break last week to Floriduh.
The Grand Kid got round trip airline tickets home from the parents.
Anything else was not in their budget.
LOL, you beat me to it, darn it...
She strikes me as the arrogant type.
At least they are not marching for gun control. At least not this week.
As if the Brits have any room to talk about young people getting drunk.
Dilly Dilly!
I’m sure most of these kids are straight A students.
