Gee, the judges wait until the last night to stress song selection! doh!
Her enunciation is a problem. This song wasn’t the worst though.
Singing her Idol song, "Rivers Deep". Got the wind machine set on high. This river isn't particularly deep. Lyrics are mostly "rise up, rise up" repeated over and over.
Katy: I see you have you're own fan handler now. You've changed. For the better. You guys are all getting your bearings. Loved what you did with your voice at the end.
Luke: (says they're not used singing new material) I gotta get out here and sell myself and sell this song. At the end you started giving us the Gabby. You're used to crowds screaming, but this isn't a hit song yet.
Lionel: Select a song from the stage back. Thank God for the fan because that was the only choreography you had.
Serious look--almost surprised look--on Gabby's face as she hears the judges' criticism. I'd be surprised too. Up until now the judges' criticism has been all gumdrops and unicorns. Now with one episode to go, they're getting tough.

Do Maddie’s feet move or are they incased in cement? Better song choice, but not loving it.
I love Maddie. She’s killing it.
That’s the thing...on AI all the contestants sing covers of someone else’s hit song. When they sing new material that no one is familiar with it’s a whole new ballgame...probably why so many AI (and The Voice) winners have a hard time being successful outside of the show-having a hit song isn’t a given just because you won a TV show contest.
Maddie has more range, but the song is just ok. Where are they finding these songs?
Oh no, they are going to sing repeats this next round. Very few successful ones to choose from.
Her first Idol single is "Going Going Gone". I guess "You're going home tonight" was taken? Not impressed by this song either.
Luke: In my opinion, you felt the most comfortable. Finally I can relax and take a breath. Way to come out here and deliver. Good job.
Lionel: To feel comfortable with a song after two weeks (isn't easy) You're a salesman now. I agree with Luke. You're the most comfortable so far.
Katy: American Idol, in a sense, is a bubble. The big leagues is a real business. I want you to more than survive. I want you to thrive. I think that song is one of the better of the three. Once you leave the nest of American Idol, it will be up to you to make that grow.
Advice from the judges, singing uncomfortable new songs:
"Fake it until you make it, then shake and bake it!"
...as if we hadn’t suffered through it once :)
