13-year old Olivia Goodreau has been living with Lyme disease for half her life. She joined me today to tell her story from the tick bite to a myriad of symptoms to visiting 51 doctors before being diagnosed with the tick-borne disease.
Olivia also talked about her nonprofit organization, LivLyme Foundation, which supports the work of researchers and scientists who are dedicated to finding the effective treatment for Lyme disease and ultimately finding the cure.
We also talk about the TickTracker app, her idea which allows you to track & report ticks in real-time with geolocation.
Jeff Stauffer, Founder of The Plan also joined the discussion. Jeff led the design and strategy for the app.

With quite a number of relatives living around the northeast we have had a whole bunch of family members contract Lymes. It can be anywhere from mild to moderate to quite severe symptoms. One young niece of mine went through years of debilitating symptoms (they diagnosed “juvenile rheumatoid arthritis”) before a new doctor finally said “where is the result of her test for Lyme’s Disease?” It turned out previous quacks had never tested her!!!! It turned out to be highly treatable, though she went through hell before it was in remission.
I don’t know about colloidal silver, but there is certainly dispute about risk vs. benefit:

Not gonna get in to motives BUT consider: anything can be bad bad in excess. Even water, for heaven sake.
So just don’t drink glasses of it sheesh.
I don’t have any “motives” here except better understanding and health for all. I don’t assume NIH is right but when they say no scientific evidence of benefits yet significant risks I would not just dismiss that, either. Sheesh.
Well NIH is citing FDA, but anyway, I don’t assume the FDA is wrong, though they might be..... would like to know more than just the assertion of another anonymous online person.

Your “pings until the world wakes up” are spreading unfounded and unsafe wives tales that at the very least can turn someone’s skin permanently blue-gray (google “argyria” images if you doubt me) and at the worst can be fatal....at least according to the CDC, the World Health Organization and the NIH:

Claims stating that OTC silver medical preparations in any form are “safe and effective” have been banned by the FDA since 1999. Read the fine print on your colloidal silver package, let me know what you see there.
And just FTR, I’ve been an Infectious Disease RN for nearly 27 years. Since 1967, the FDA approved gold standard of safe and effective treatment of Lyme Disease has been Doxycycline, at an average cost of $0.84/pill. Without further research, I will reserve judgement on the LivLym Foundation in the OP, but I might possibly smell a wee bit of BS.
(pondering) I suppose one could say silver is a medical marvel and an effective treatment for Lyme disease (or any other illness) in that the resulting heavy metal poisoning will kill you, but that seems to be on about the same level of intelligence as saying cutting your head off will cure a brain tumor. /s
I was under the impression was that the main danger from Lyme Disease was not that it was difficult to treat, but that people often don’t know they have it because the disease mimics so many other things that by the time it is diagnosed, damage may be already done.
Granted they have a test for it that isn’t perfect, but I believe they don’t use the test unless you have a history of having been bitten by a tick, or a characteristic circular skin lesion, so a lot of people go undiagnosed.
the type of infection is relevant. as long as the spirochete has not crossed the blood brain/spine barrier doxy works fine. Colloidal silver is not going to help neuro lyme. The only treatment i’m aware of is daily antibiotic treatments for years. The individual will still be profoundly disabled, arthritis.
Only good if you kill them, bring back DDT.
Thanks...I got the test a few years back after I pulled off a tick, and the area got red, though not a bullseye...just to be careful.

The disease is named after a place - East Lyme, CT. It’s not named after a person.
It’s LYME disease, not LYME’S disease.

You nailed it rlmorel. Establishing a definitive diagnosis based on clinical signs, and even clin path, is possible for very few diseases.
