What ar the odds?
Now we have “Thundersnow”, along with “Polar Vortex” and “Bomb Cyclone”......Remember when it was just “Weather”?
I have been in a snow storm with Thunder at 7,000 feet. Doubt that it is rare.
Reminds me of Giligan with the bowling ball on his hand.. I know, Im losing it.
“Thundersnow” is a blizzard thing. Nobody is out in a blizzard, so nobody gets hit.
I’ve seen lightning and thunder during snow once in of all places, Oak Harbor, WA.
About 6 of us were in the yard last year when
there came a clap of thunder and we all looked
straight up..scared the crap out of us.
Thundersnow...wow.
Move over Sharknado there is a new franchise headed for the big screen. Not sure of the title yet but I do like Thunder Snow. Throw in some giant frozen fish sticks flying through the air and I feel a series of hit movies is in the making.
Kato Kailin is living proof Gilligan boinked Mary Ann
I was driving on I-84 & I-15 along the Idaho/Utah border some years back at night and there was a VERY active snow storm with thunder and lightning. WOW! The snow really magnified the lightning.
Pretty slim considering how rare thundersnow is.
It is a different spectacle, isn’t it.
No, actually it's not just in blizzards.
It happens regularly, but not often, in lake effect snow.
It will be snowing at a decent rate but the winds which categorize the storm as a blizzard are not the factor in producing thundersnow.
I used to live east of Pocatello, ID at 6000 ft. elevation and experienced several Thundersnow storms. The first one was the most memorable because I’d never heard of such a phenomenon previously. The plain old summertime thunderstorms at that elevation were pretty impressive too. They sure make you seek shelter in a big hurry!
We’ve had thundersnow for about as long as we’ve had snow - experienced it a few times when growing up around Rochester, NY - just not part of the average snow event.
I have only experienced thundersnow once. I was pretty cool though.
It is cool and I do like it.
It still creeps me out a little.
