On March 6, 1998, a little movie called The Big Lebowski opened in half-empty theaters across the country, and anyone expecting the Coen brothers to get serious for their follow-up to the Oscar-winning Fargo was in for a very chill surprise. A dopey but profound slacker noir about a guy a conscientious objector to all human conflict whose quest to avenge a soiled rug unravels into a wild goose chase involving all sorts of inherent vice, The Big Lebowski may not have been much of a hit at the box office, but it took on a life of its own after that.
See the things that no one else can see, do the things no one else can do.
Great movie.
Up there with Remo Williams.
“That’s how I feel about BASEketball.”
I loved that movie. It summed up the pros and cons (mostly cons) of professional sports perfectly. I can’t see how a comedy like BASEketball gets trashed, but a comedy like that stupid Ben Stiller dodgeball movie that came out about 10 years after it gets rave reviews :-).
“The Lakers moved to LA where there are no lakes. The Jazz moved to Utah where there is no music.” :-)
LMAO.
SHUT THE F*** UP DONNIE!
"Is there a Ralph's around here?"
Army of Darkness I haven’t seen. Will need to check that out.
The others - awesome!
My old tagline was “the life of a repo man is always intense.” Will go back to that in a few months methinks.
You’re dumb then and dumb now - look at your screenname - freedumb2003 LOL
One of the funniest scenes in the movie.
>>Youre dumb then and dumb now - look at your screenname - freedumb2003 LOL<<
I see DU has penetrated our midst.
Got any other ad hominem?
Maybe make fun of people for being colored or of another national origin?
AD HOMINEM IS FUN!! AND SO EASY!!!!
I won’t “Report Abuse” for a liberal here but I should.
When he tosses the ashes and they blow back into Jeff Bridges' face, then starts talking about Vietnam, the look on Bridges' face was priceless.
Thats the magic of it, you know straight up hes a loser hippie and he does get his ass kicked on a regular basis throughout the story- mostly self inflicted. Plus, he loses his most prized possession that ties his whole room together.
Oh my goodness, a veritable font of hilarity! I only saw it once, can't even remember when, and I'm sure I forget most of it! ... but I loved it. ( I certainly remember the trailer hitch! )
100%
Give got to see it. In the same vein as those other flicks. They dont make them like that anymore.
I love most of the Coen bros. movies, but I could never sit all the way through that one, despite several attempts.
Was unimpressed when it come out. Even less, if that’s possible, now.
It's a movie about nothing.
But they are both funny.
It's like a Raymondl Chandler Philip Marlowe detective novel.
It is episodic in nature rather than plot driven.
The disparate scenes stand by themselves as comedic gems.
The plot is essentially there just to provide a vehicle for the different scenes.
As eclectic as it is, The Big Lebowski is one of my all-time favorite movies.
The Cohen brothers put out some good films.
