If CA is so bad, why are so many people going there?

They did not take climate into account when they were ranking the states.

Who does California have 13% of the U.S.’s population, but 25% of its homeless problem?

Being a sanctuary state makes it a haven for illegals. So there's that.

Immigrants show up there disproportionately, but residents have been leaving for decades.

If you go and look at rental van/trailer useage...CA for the last couple of years have come up near the top in terms of the place where people are leaving. Fewer folks are moving into the state.

Plus you see a number of folks who are coming upon retirement....selling their house, and moving out of the state. I watched some 65 year old gal explain that her politics don’t exist in the bay area anymore, so why stay?

California’s population growth is continuing to slow and that we could see a no-growth situation in future decades.

High foreign immigration and a new baby boom generated a nearly 25 percent gain in California’s population between 1980 and 1990, but growth slowed markedly during the 1990s, principally due to a recession that sparked an exodus to other states.

Slowing immigration and lower birthrates continued to reduce growth in the new century’s first decade and in this one as well – from 2 percent a year in the 1980s to about one-third that rate today.

Foreign immigration has dropped sharply, and we now lose more people to other states than we gain, with Texas the No. 1 destination for ex-Californians.

Most interestingly, the state’s birthrate has declined to 12.42 babies per 1,000 population, down more than a percentage point from 2010 and the lowest in California history.

Meanwhile, the aging of the baby boom generation – the oldest boomers are now 70 – means an increase in the state’s death rate to 6.71 per 1,000.

Births minus deaths, dubbed “natural increase,” still account for more than two-thirds of California’s population growth, but as the gap narrows, it slows growth.

California’s current growth rate, about 0.7 percent a year, is scarcely a third of the nation’s fastest-growing state, Utah, which posted a 2.03 percent gain between 2015 and 2016. It’s also less than half of the rate in rival Texas.

There is mostly no climate here, mostly comfortable weather, and no annoying insects. People are casual and moderately friendly and mostly let you live your life your way. There is a short distance between greatly varying topographies as well as lifestyles. Beach, mountains, deserts, countryish, big city. It is fairly easy to get used to the pace. There isn’t a type of person who does not fit in here (for real, there are even pockets of LA county where the 2nd amendment rules and where first responders and conservatives fit in.). There are great entertainment and sports and cultural events. There is every kind of activity for children.

Those are the positives. The negatives are that no one other than the wealthy can afford a typical middle class life. The schools suck and there is no hope for anything other than leftist politicians winning elections. There is ghastly traffic taking many hours out of your week. Homes are almost impossible to buy and what you get for your money is poor indeed compared to elsewhere. The local government puts illegals and homeless ahead of citizens and residents. In many places, you will be surrounded by people who are shockingly gullible and politically ignorant.

Although the population of California is increasing, the absolute number of native born Americans residing there is decreasing.

In a nutshell, California is becoming a third world country.

“If CA is so bad, why are so many people going there?”

What an pathetic “study”!

California gets ranked #44 in “natural environment”???

When it comes to natural beauty, variety, weather, things to do... it’s not even close. CA is #1.

Politics on the other hand...

My son just 2 weeks ago drove a round trip from Houston to Pomona. He traveled I10 all the way. He said there were “hundreds of U-Huals” on the highway coming toward Texas. I don’t think many people are moving the other way. I wish they would go to North Dakota instead. We’ve got enough of them.

“If CA is so bad, why are so many people going there?” Everything I’ve read about Cali population states that it’s dropping, rapidly. Those leaving are in the productive class; educated, skilled, entrapurnal, etc. those staying are the takers who are tapped into the state’s generous welfare system. Those people going to Cali are primarily illegals and those wanting to sign on for Cali’s benefits. Personally, I think that what’s happening to Cali is just fantastic, haha 🤙...

Bad as it is, it's better than where they are coming from--Sinaloa, Oaxaca, Kwangtung Province, West Bengal, etc.
