I have a chance at a Mossberg in 30-06 for an excellent price. Problem is I have no experience in HP Mossberg. Normally I'm found with Remmington, Savage, some Ruger.
Anyone have some helpful insights?
Mossbergs are fine guns. If it’s cheap, grab it.
I’m quite happy with my Mossberg pump-action 12 gauge.
As the previous poster said, for a good price, grab it. If for whatever reason you don’t like it, you can always re sell it.

Mossburg Shockwave is my choice for ending a home invasion threat.
We have a Mossberg tactical 500 shotgun and love it.
Rifle wise Mossberg tends to be a little behind the curve. You can’t go wrong with Ruger.
We (Son & I) own three Mossbergs - two shotguns, one rifle.
Had one malfunction with the rifle - (my fault!)
Despite it being a problem I created (ill-fitted laser bore
sight) they paid shipping both ways, fixed it free and had
it back to me in two weeks total time.

Mossberg typically makes good functional firearms. If it is in good condition at a good price I would buy it.
If you want it, go for it.
30-06 is the best rifle cartridge ever. Anything Mossberg builds around it should be serviceable enough.
If you dont like it, sell it and buy something else.

Mossberg Patriot and MVP series? Decent chance of good results.
Earlier centerfire, such as the 800 series? Be more careful. Not that they were bad, but they’ve been out of production a long time and parts are becoming tougher to find.
Bore wear can seriously affect accuracy. Not easy to tell what the wear state is, without careful examination through a borescope, or by using wear gauges, which most private party sellers won’t have. Getting your own can be costly. If the seller objects to such checking, steer clear.
Not that all sellers are deceitful, but some are. Some may understate the number of rounds already fired through a used piece, but most folks keep only sketchy records of what they’ve fired through their rifle. More of a problem in varmint-caliber rifles, which tend to get more rounds run through them than rifles chambering big-game cartridges like 30-06.
Savage and Mossberg have been giving the bigger-name manufacturers headaches, by turning out surprisingly accurate rifles for moderate prices. Ruger makes good ones too, for somewhat higher prices.
Mossberg is an excellent arms manufacturer and priced relatively affordable. I have a .22 cal bolt action manufactured in the 1940’s and it still operates well that also includes a 12 gauge pump that I’ve used extensively with both shotgun and slug barrels.
30-06 is a rather high powered round on its own. Imagine a high powered version. They could give it a neat name like The Game Blender.
