need advice. I have an adolescent with sever behavioral issues. Suicidal thoughts, violent behavior, bursts of emotion, anger and very drastic mood swings. Like you see in the movies about crazy people, but from a 12 year old.
we have tried all sorts of therapy but nothing seems to move the needle. The last evaluation mentioned posbile hospitalization and medications. Does anyone have experience with this?
Yes, the Freepers have always been a source of information and sometimes entertainment but they have come throught for my family in a time of need.
We are very grateful.
Thank you.
newnhdad,
It is not too late. Your child has troubles, but we all have troubles at times in our lives.
And I can tell you understand your wife and children are the most important thing.
My advice is, BE AS DRASTIC AS NECESSARY to change whatever needs to be changed.
New job, no job, spend a year in a different place where you can live very cheap and spend huge amounts of time.
Whatever you want to look back on 10 years from now and know you did the right thing, DO IT NOW.
Get your bride on board.
Make sure you have support.
Choose to do whatever you know in your heart you must do and do it without regrets.
I’m praying for you and your wife and child.

ATTACHMENTS: WHY YOU LOVE, FEEL & ACT THE WAY YOU DO
It is well worth the time for anyone. Qx would give it to every parent on the planet, if he had the funds to do so.

$11 on Amazon, paperback. I just bought it and it will be here in three days. If Quix thinks it is that good, I’m in. (Okay - I did read the other great reviews of it too!)
Thanks for all of the other links too - it will take awhile to get to them all.
Thanks for your kind reply. Even on his meager income, Qx has given a lot of used copies away. He’d love to hear what you think of it after you’ve read it.
Very interesting developments.
So sorry about your mom, infool7. May God provide every need for her recovery.
Prayers continuing...
How long ago? Evidently it wasn’t helping. I’d be going somewhere else. I wouldn’t just give up.
“How long ago?”
Not sure. The article only said there had been therapy and I didn’t see any timeline.
The teen years are difficult for so many since so much is happening physically and emotionally and today’s society has such a terrible signal to noise ratio I feel for parents and teens going through that phase right now. My kids are all young adults now and the struggle continues but they all have a good foundation which keeps them somewhat stable.
God Bless
God Bless right back at you.
Along with some of the other excellent advice on this thread (counseling, prayer), find out what is going on in his or her school. Check with ALL the teachers. In our child’s case, the art teacher accidentally let slip a clue during one of the parent/teacher school open house events.
I will keep your whole family in my prayers.
Thank you..
I'm an EMT and have found that many psychological issues have a viral or bacteriological start.
First thing I look for in a psych issue.
And don't forget diabetes!
Continue to pray... Join a group like families anonymous... You are no good if you can’t get healthy...
I will pray for you brother... God is with you... Never doubt such... For that is what is written
Your wife may need counseling, too. Sounds like being ‘checked out” is not such a good thing given the situation. What did you decide to do. If she is hospitalized I want to know so I can focus on healing and protection prayer for her. I’ll be praying for your wife, too.
Anyway, best wishes. I hope everything turns out better quickly.
Sara
If your medical professional is,advising hospitalization then I would go that route. We’ve had our own struggles with our daughter. But it always came down to the question is she a danger to others. Years of suspensions, theft, hyper-sexualized behavior, anti social behavior, and all of the lies, but she never physically hurt herself or others so they wouldn’t admit her for hospitalization. This all started ehen she was 8.
