We were sounding the alarm bells on Bush 2 and they couldn't imagine we were telling them the God's honest truth.

I’m not that far along. At this point, i believe the President will do an about face if he finds out just how badly he screwed the pooch with this.

However, i just can’t go along with this fantasy that Trump has a secret plan to metaphorically make his marriage better by cheating on Melania.

“It is his OPENING bid ... good grief ... “

Yup. He’s taking away talking points and steering the issue.

Not worried.

It doesn't matter whether or not Trump is a gun-grabber.

He lost my support forever when he arranged the amnesty for 1.8 million illegals. I'll never forgive him for ... What? He didn't do that? But he said he would sign it! I heard him say he would sign the bill if it reached his desk.

Seriously, one must give Trump a chance to maneuver his opponents. He engages in verbal jiu-jitsu. He uses the momentum of his opponents to defeat them. That is what he is doing right now.

Does anybody on this forum really care that Donald said he would provide a path to citizenship for 1.8 million illegals if IT DIDN'T HAPPEN? I believe that he knew long before I knew that the liberals would not support an end to chain migration. He caused that poison pill to be put in the bill and he never even had to consider signing it.

Now, we need to watch for the poison pill in this case. Trump practically sent a telegram to the Republicans that national concealed-carry reciprocity would constitute such a poison pill.

Ryan, if I understand correctly, has already gotten a successful House vote on national concealed-carry reciprocity. All he has to do is insist that any gun bill also reflect the will of the House and contain that provision. He has the votes to do it. The liberals will be screaming like their hair is on fire if that happens. They will run from this like it's a venomous snake.

When no bill shows up on Trump's desk, he has the cover of having supported all the nonsense the liberals asked for without giving up a thing. That's what he did with DACA. Only the courts are keeping DACA alive and that will end soon.

There four main dangers:
1. gun-grabbing
2. gun sales restrictions
3. gun registration
4. being made a criminal for exercising a constitutional right

Trump mentioned grabbing guns without due process. The lack of his respect for Amendment VIII is shocking.

The existing gun restrictions should have kept the killer from getting a gun, but they didn’t. Practical fixes and resignations are obviously needed.

The third, gun registration is problematical since it will lead to gun grabbing.

The fourth is unfortunately a real fear, such as might be caused by refusing to register guns which have been peaceably possessed for years and even decades.

Since the deaths could have been easily avoided under existing law, proposed government efforts merely represent a power grab.

That’s a good point and is disturbing. Obama wanted it and more but never dared to say anything like that in public.

Not worried one bit. If anything, he’s planning on taking guns away from the upcoming Civil War enemies without due process. I’m all for taking guns away from eventual enemy combatant leftists that are always doing the slaughtering. When Civil War goes hot, it would all make sense.
What the hell, why not?

Absolutely. This is drama. There is no way a bill with what he suggested will ever cross his desk. He’s not in the fight. He won’t fight congress to pass a bill like this. It’s all talk.

It’s amazing that no matter how many times Trump pulls this tactic, some people continue to fall for it.

Even the SACRAMENTO BEE published an article advocating the enforcement of existing gun laws, before moving to enact more. That means the Blinding Flash of the Obvious is measured in mega-tonnage, on this topic.

What Trump says versus what Trump does are two different things. He's definitely not a man of his word.

I'll wait on what he actually supports and signs into law. If he actually furthers gun control, heck, I'll support impeachment.

Yup that’s it Trump betrayed us on gun control. How do I get my vote back? Ha ha ha go away fool.

You clearly don’t understand Trump. You were probably whining about Trump betraying us on immigration and listened to silly breast beating crap from people like Lil Annie Coulter. Trump knows what he is doing.

Due to my thinking handicap I’d sure appreciate someone of your intellectual stature explaining to me how this particular strategy is supposed to play out?

No, but advocating taking a weapon without due process is kinda a gun grab don’t ya think?

All he was advocating is taking guns from people who have a documented history of acting crazy, engaging in violence, and threatening violence. His comment regarding due process was made in context of the fact that no due process was imposed on this violent and disturbed nutcase. There should have been due process, but there wasn't because Broward County educators and police put getting federal funds ahead of public safety.

The fact is, Nikolas Cruz's guns should have been seized, and there was ample due process capability for doing so. The President was speaking out of frustration regarding the fact that nothing was done, when in reality it should have been. So he's just talking like a jackass with respect to the "due process" comment. You can't deprive anyone of Rights under the Constitution without due process, so that's that, and everyone should be aware of that instead of waxing hysterical. The President clearly has a misunderstanding regarding the use of the term itself...

It's absolutely mind-blowing that this shooting was allowed to occur. If ever a mass shooting could have and should have been prevented—with due process—this one was it.

So the President—as is his wont—was speaking figuratively, not literally, and anyone who is clutching pearls as a result is in total ignorance of the last 2 years, and the blunt but imprecise way he sometimes says things. I'm sure his advisors have pointed this misstatement out to him by now, and if they haven't, then he needs to get some new advisors...
