Nearly all cannabis on Britains streets is now super-strength skunk that could be fueling the rise in mental health problems, scientists have warned.
Researchers at Kings College London tested almost 1,000 police seizures from Kent, Derbyshire, Merseyside, Sussex and the capital in 2016, and found 94 percent were of a dangerously high potency.
In 2005, just 51 percent of cannabis sold on the street was sinsemilla, also known as skunk.
Dr. Marta Di Forti, Medical Research Council Clinician Scientist at Kings College warned that the powerful drug placed Britains 2.1 million cannabis users at risk of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, psychosis, delusions and hallucinations. [ ]
The researchers also found that in normal cannabis resin, the average concentration of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) the main psychoactive component had risen by 50 percent since 2005, from four percent to six percent. In contrast, the ratio of antipsychotic cannabidiol (CBD), which helps mitigate the drugs psychoactive effects, had fallen dramatically.
Skunk has around 14 percent THC, and is more dangerous because it contains very small amount of CBD.

Wait ...
... what?
Give it away free at the mosques.
OMG! Drugs could lead to brain damage and mental health issues????!!!!
They should immediately spend a billion dollars of tax revenue to study this shocking potential!
Yep, we get these psychotic marijuana users on the streets here—usually you can smell them from 50 feet away but they can be extremely violent plus they are so stoned they wander out across traffic.
For your interest.
That's what prohibitions always do: increase potency in order to increase portability and hide-ability. Same thing during alcohol Prohibition, when the supply swung toward hard liquior.
Garbage. The author has no idea what she is talking about. All pot is sinsemilla unless it’s ditch weed. Sinsemilla simply means it is from a female plant that wasn’t pollinated. That’s how you always grow pot commercially.
14 percent THC is kid stuff, really. Indica buds sporting 25-30 percent THC content go for 30-40 dollars an eighth ounce at the local bud shop in these parts.
Good grief, the absolute stupidity of journalists. Bunch of click whores.
Sinsemilla means “without seeds”. It is the buds of the female cannabis plant that was not allowed to be fertilized by the pollen of a male cannabis plant. This allows all the plants focus to be on flower or “bud” production instead of seed production.
Skunk, or more appropriately Skunk #1 is an old stabilized strain created by Dutch marijuana growers back in the 1970’s or 80’s. It’s been used as a strain since then to breed with other strains to get the desired results of the grower.
I went through a 6 month phase after I got out of the Army. Then I had to get a job. Haven’t touched the stuff since 1994. At one point prior to 2008, I was in the random drug screening pool for 4 different government entities. My employer, national guard, US Coast Guard (Merchant Mariner’s license) and DOT (commercial truck drivers license).
LOL, REEFER MADNESS, REEFER MADNESS!
it makes conservatives look foolish and hypocritical, especially the drinkers in the crowd.
Interesting the CBD to THC ratio issue link to toxicity.
Or you could grow it yourself for free if it was not a felony...
Outlaw a natural plant and poison us with all this man made crap instead. Brilliant!
I believe every state with legal weed allows citizens to grow some except Washington, where I reside.
The concentrates available around here often test in the low 80s (percent of THC) according to state testing labs. I’m told that a single puff/toke is sometimes more than enough for a novice user (depending on other characteristics of the strain). Some of the strains are over 20% in the raw flower (not concentrate) form.
If cannabis causes you mental health problems you already had mental health problems.
I take CBD separately myself and some marijuana users add it to the herb they smoke to temper the undesirable effects of THC at high doses, especially anxiety and paranoia.
Yes! I will take the contract!
Yeah... and we know all weed-smokers comply with the law. /s
14% THC? Lightweights.
