The 2018 version of Samsung's flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, are here. And, they sport several new features to appeal to professionals and the enterprise.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 closes the gap between smartphones and computers. With a desktop-class processor, 5.8-inch, 2960x1440-pixel display (6.2-inch on the S9 Plus), built-in stereo sound, and an improved DeX experience for docking the phone and running it as a full PC, the S9 and S9 Plus come closer than any smartphones yet to offering a true desktop replacement for workers. And, the company smartly chose to build on the program it started with the Note 8 Enterprise Edition by offering a Galaxy S9 Enterprise Edition as well.
When will the Galaxy S9 be released?
The official launch date of the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus is March 16, 2018. Pre-orders begin on March 2, while retail locations will have the devices in stores beginning on March 16. The unlocked versions of the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will be available through Samsung's webite and the Shop Samsung app and will cost $719.99 and $839.99, respectively. Samsung will offer 24 months financing for $30/month for the S9 and $35/month for the S9 Plus. Samsung will also provide up to a $350 credit for the trade-in of an existing phone.

Samsung DeX Pad turns the Galaxy S9 into a touchpad PC at MWCSamsung is still betting there's a future in the phone-based evolution of computers.
BY SCOTT STEIN FEBRUARY 25, 2018 9:15 AM PST C-Net.
If phones are becoming predictable, maybe it's the accessories that go with them that can be bold. The latest case in point is Samsung's new DeX Pad -- launched today alongside the company's new 2018 flagship phones, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. It's a second-generation docking station designed to convert those new phones into PC-style workstations in corporate environments.
I used last year's version, the DeX dock, to turn a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 into my work computer. The experiment worked better than I expected: I could file stories, use my company's browser-based content management system and access Google apps just fine. All I needed was a mouse, a monitor and Samsung's dock to bridge the phone into becoming a "lite" Android computer.
Samsung DeX Pad turns the Galaxy S9 into a touchpad PC
For 2018, the DeX Pad turns Samsung's new S9 into a touchpad driving a PC-style experience you can use with a plug-in monitor. The DeX Pad is only for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus for now, but it may eventually get an update that'll let it work with the S8.

That sounds great, but can you still make phone calls with it ?
While on the subject of Android.. if you see anyone who is having a problem tethering with an Xperia Z(1 through 5) model, let me know.. took me almost a year to find out how to disable the block.
(and you don’t need to be rooted)
;^)
“Personally, I’m coming to the end of a contract on my S7 - which is having some issues. (dropping it and cracking the back hasn’t helped) I might have to go for an S9..”
My S7 Edge is a little slower than it used to be and I don’t REALLY need an upgrade but the S9 is sounding pretty good to me :)
My S7 is cracked on the back - *then* I bought an otter case for it. (I know, locking the barn door after...) First phone I had ever dropped and damaged. The battery doesn’t have the capacity it used to. That’s starting to become a noticeable issue. Finally, the external volume buttons do not work. That problem predates the drop/crack so I know I didn’t do that to it. I’ve tried every reset / fix procedure on the internet and cannot get them to work. I keep optimistically thinking “the next update will do it” or some such. I’ve done a factory data reset on it several times just to “clean house.” I keep most everything on the micro SD card. Might be time to move up after the initial hoopla over the S9 fades a bit.
I just got my S8 a few months ago lol.
