GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Greenville police have made an arrest in connection with gunfire Friday night at an AMC Theater.
Police say 30-year-old Shameeka Latrice Lynch of Tarboro surrendered at the Pitt County Detention Center Saturday evening.
Lynch is charged with one count of discharging a firearm in an enclosure to incite fear and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill.
Lynch is currently at the Pitt County Detention Center under a $250,000 bond.
Greenville Police Chief Mark Holtzman said they received reports of an active shooter at the AMC Theater on Firetower Road around 11:45 p.m. Friday. Within minutes, officers arrived and entered the theater.
Holtzman said a dispute over seating arrangements appears to have led up to the shooting.
“That dispute quickly turned into a pistol being pulled out and at least one shot being fired off into the ceiling,” Holtzman said.
The shooting took place in theater two. Ryan Query and his wife were just four theaters down at the time watching Black Panther. He said armed officers entered the theater and informed them they needed to evacuate.
“About every 5 steps there was an officer with an assault rifle and fully armored,” Query said.

Yeah, that’s what I found too.
Lust how tone deaf can the police and SWAT be, using actual scary assault rifles around citizens, why they could have leapt out of the officers hands and just, just started firing all by themselves killing people. All those theater goers traumatized.

At our local theaters, we go online and select our seats from a map of the available seats. From your computer or smart phone, the payment is made and you go to a kiosk and have the card read that was used for the payment. You can also print out a sheet with a bar code that can be read by a scanner. The kiosk will print out your tickets and, from there, you go to your seats. These seats are like recliner chairs, which will tilt you back and lift your feet up in padded luxury.
The last time my wife and I went to the movie, we came up to our reserved seat and a couple was in our seats. I asked if they made a mistake and they told me they came in late to their movie and wanted to watch the part they missed. Thankfully, they found an empty pair of seats and we did not have any trouble. However, if it was a drug-addled member of the hood, there could have been a different outcome. I have heard of situations where people tried to see a movie twice and the police were summoned to usher the offender to a police car.
There is no reason a person should be in an other’s reserved seat. If they are in your seat, you show them your ticket with its seat number and the time of the showing. If there is any dispute after that, the management or cops should handle the situation.

That’s all they had in the story. If only one shot was fired, how could they both be charged?
Would be nice if you could know what sort of people will be sitting in the surrounding seats. ie, "John Smith, a loudmouth jerk from the neighborhood will be occupying the seat to your immediate right"
