See this kid? Yeah, where I’m from, that’s called, “crazy as a shithouse rat”.

Here’s a nutty idea. Stay with me. How about we put the crazy people in a facility where they can receive supervision, care and treatment? We could call it… hmmm… let’s see… an “insane asylum”, or even a “mental hospital”. That is, a place where people who are insane and/or mentally ill could receive shelter and care, and at the same time the rest of society would likewise be protected from them. Because CRAZY PEOPLE CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. It would almost be like a CORPORAL WORK OF MERCY OR SOMETHING.

Just brainstorming here, kinda free-associating, what if there were religious orders that had as a charism the care of the mentally ill? Wouldn’t that be a beautiful thing? People dedicating their lives to God, the right worship of God, and as a function of their love for God, they would care for those of God’s children who are insane? Off the wall, right? I know.

the problem is lack of monitoring the mentally ill. if some one is on serious anti depressants they should be monitored heavily and in some case just locked up. unfortunately we ignore mental health issues because when the problem is really bad dealing with the issues is not fun for any sane person.

I admit don't know the answer. Some people need antidepressants. However, there was a case in my wife's family, before I met her, of a woman on antidepressants murdering her husband while he slept. If someone is going to be prescribed an antidepressant, they need to be watched. Perhaps they should be institutionalized while on the drugs. Unfortunately, the purpose of the drugs is to allow them to lead a normal life, rather than be locked up. It doesn't always work.

Near as I can tell from up close: missing a couple doses releases the patient from the calm stupor, drops straight thru depression, goes past “flight” and full into “fight” where reason doesn’t apply, only dominance & destroying the designated threat. Understanding that last stage is near impossible precisely because it’s not rational - to the point that bystanders can barely remember what happened precisely because it’s nonsense.
