Bradie Tennell fell. Mirai Nagasu fell. Karen Chen had to put her hand down on the ice to stop herself from falling. Three American skaters. Three errors they likely wont be able to recover from here at the Olympics short program Wednesday. Im mad, said Nagasu, who is ninth place. Im upset. I am not going to lie, I am pretty disappointed in myself, said Chen, who is in 10th. Were all human, said Tennell, who is in 11th. We make mistakes. The United States hasnt won a medal in ladies figure skating since 2006, when Sasha Cohen took silver. Barring a miraculous comeback, that streak will extend to 2022 in Beijing. Its a major fall from grace for U.S. Figure Skating, which was once an international powerhouse.

The reason is obvious.
....the rest of the world has caught
Naw, it ain't Trump - it's global warming!
The ladies haven't been able to practice! No ice!
But then, who's responsible for global warming?
OK - yes. Trump.
A friend of mine that is involved in ice dancing says that it’s due to a change in the scoring system that encourages the skaters to attempt Quad jumps, but doesn’t penalize them much for missing as much as “not attempting”.
Basically the skating federation is removing the artistry from the even and turning it into a demonstration of physical prowess. And just like “Ladies Gymnastics” the sport will be quickly taken over by pre-pubescent girls who have the power-to-weight ration to nail jump sequences while their older sisters get left home — too old to compete.
Just a guess......... most American girls who are inclined to feel like taking part in a sport when young may realize even then that a very, very few will ever receive notoriety, fame, or money from ice skating.
It has a lot to do with our base "culture" that emphasizes fame and fortune. And also, becoming a great figure skater is a real pain for the child AND the parent(s). Taking the child to a proper rink to get practice time is very time consuming and difficult for mostly all parents today.
Our wives make us watch it.
Maybe all the sexual predators are starting to deplete the talent pool. I’m starting to think that big time U.S. sports just needs to be shut down across the board for at least 20 years, the rampant sexual abuse being just one of several terminal cancers. And when it restarts, eliminate college scholarships, corporate sponsorships and television contracts. Base the economics on paid admissions to live events.
That's a real bummer. I guess those fantastically poetic and artistic Russian female skaters will not be winning so much any more?
It’s early but Post of the day.
I was obsessed with the sport back in the Torvill and Dean days. It was a beautiful, artistic endeavor. Now, of course, I can’t even find out what channel the Olympics are on.
Uuuhhhh — ice is slippery???
More/better outlets for female athletes in the US now and still an expensive sport to pursue.
Just not as important to the US as it is to some other countries. Like a lot of Olympic sports.
And that’s fine.
Are there people actually skating at the Olympics? Every time I turn it on somebody is announcing theyre gay and hate Trump
Three falls, one question: What’s wrong with U.S. women’s figure skating?
Not enough time in the safe room and the petting dogs were ugly and the cookies were not chocolate chip and the warm milk was too cold and ...
Too much lesbian feeling guilty and thus campaigning insteas of skating
Lora Ingraham is right : Shut up and skate
Lol no ice
Twenty years from now brick and mortar colleges and television may fall into the “quaint” category...like rotary phones.
Hear hear. All this virtue signaling against Trump instead of skating is a cover up for the sex abuse à la Hollywood
Sort of.. what you attempt do to a “level 4” if you can, and that doesn’t mean all the triples etc. What is not discussed is the point value of spins, they are huge if you get a level 4. Still the higher you go up the competition chain, and you don’t have triples it is harder to rack up the total points.
