Bloated with every trope in the genre, too long running time, lack of investment in the villains and Jon Snow dies not once, but twice. With the #OscarsSoWhite controversy and the lack of diversity in mainstream movies and TV being recognized and addressed, its risky to criticize BLACK PANTHER. I have seen the sea-change. Black actors and actresses are being hired. They are being represented on TV series and in films.
The New York Times headline was Why Black Panther is a Defining Moment for Black America might well be a true statement, but is it a good movie?
A big-budgeted studio film about a black action superhero with a nearly all-black cast is a huge step forward. However, I owe it to my readers to give my honest opinion about BLACK PANTHER. I am not intimidated by fear of being called a racist because I did not like BLACK PANTHER.

It is sort of funny to see “serious” critics who took the opportunity to bash every Marvel movies as “lowbrow” and too “explodey” suddenly gush over the story of a hero born of privilege whose nation is basically “walled off” from the rest of the world.
I have not and in all likelihood will not see this film in a theater however the hype that has accompanied it would lead me to believe that to be critical (regardless of the justification) would be a bad career move for the reviewer. Just sayin.
They don’t even have foreign aid for their African brothers and sisters literally starving next door.
Ignoring movies like Spawn, Shaft, though they’re mediocre.
Ignores the Blade trilogy, too. And that movie had a variety of scenes that reflected some of this ethos, like a dumb white guy asking Blade if he bruises and Blade slaps him, leaving a mark.
“Im sure itll be a smash...cough cough cough.”
Already is apparently.
“Disney-Marvels Black Panther is gaining momentum with forecasts estimating as much as $170 million in North America during the four-day Presidents Day weekend, updated tracking shows.” http://variety.com/2018/film/news/box-office-black-panther-opening-weekend-tracking-1202696018/

Don’t commit cultural appropriation; don’t see this movie.
Im still wondering why NO ONE has brought up the cultural approriation of the Hamilton show? Minorities playing ALL the parts that were White men?? Really??
Forecasts...
Are those the same as election polls? Or are they the same as weather reports?
And I never said that it wouldn’t kill it on opening weekend. But look at all the hype surrounding it. They’re pumping this thing up, more than the last Star Wars. Hell, they had kids crying on line when all those other Star Wars movies came out. If it’s good, it’s good. And good on them for making a good movie. If it sucks, then every excuse in the world will be given and it will all come back to one thing and one thing only.
I’m not saying it’s going to be a bad movie, hell, it might even be a great one. But, they’re pumping it up because it’s a “BLACK SUPERHERO” and ALL should support it because it is a “BLACK SUPERHERO”.
Personally, I’d rather see Gal Gadot, in her Wonder Woman outfit over and over and over again.
I looked at audience rating and it was at 76. Still a “ripe” tomato; but, probably a more accurate rating than the “critics” rating.
