From #Metoo to #IDo. Many modern brides living in the age of female empowerment arent waiting for prince charming to pop the question theyre taking their happily-ever-afters into their own hands.
I knew if I proposed he would have a ring and I wouldnt be like a kept woman, said Rebecca Reed, who proposed to her boyfriend in July on their one-year anniversary date. I was like: Im taking it by the balls and doing it.
Danielle Sinay, emboldened by the womens movement, asked her boyfriend of three years to marry her in October.

I’m a man. In all my life I never had the desire for a woman to give me a ring. Or a ring at all.
I didn’t either. We just arrived at the unspoken point where we both knew it was the next logical thing. In August it will be 55 years....and a pretty good ride for both of us. Both retired, a summer home in Ocean City, MD. What’s not to like? Praise Jesus!
After 9 years of hum hahing about getting married my GF tackled me in the living room and said: “Go pack your bags, we are going to Vegas and an Elvis impersonator is going to marry us.” Was the middle of summer. Vegas was 112 to 118 in the shade. Was a blast. Toured every casino in Vegas by ourselves. Did not gamble a dime. Observed the sounds are Pavlovian training. The helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon was fun, as was the tour of the inside of the Hoover Dam.
As we got on the plane home she turned to me and said, “lets never come back to this God forsaken sh!thole again.” I got lucky. I got a keeper.
cutting off his balls - more likely
You are my hero Hildy ! Thank you for the smile.
Why not? More freedom. No one is forcing anyone to marry. A woman should feel free to propose. It’s not really new though. Women have been doing this for eons. The only thing that is new is that the woman usually waits to see if the guy will propose before asking. And then beats around the bush, hinting. But this gets quicker to the point.

So classy. Who wouldn’t want to marry such a genteel female?
That sounds wonderful!
How long ago was that? How old are you and your wife?
How is your marriage going now?
12 years ago. Both 48. Splendidly.
If I could tell you how we met you would blush, freak out and run for the hills.
Lets just say this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJVXTKkjsxA
The woman should, of course, be able to keep the money that she earned from working at her job and everything that she paid for with money that she earned from working at her job.
There we agree, and I would be interested to read your view of how.
exactly... they may not have popped the question, but they sure have pushed it out of their boyfriends lol
Haha! I wanted to marry my wife within 30 minutes of meeting her. She felt the same way. The rest was just logistics. Married 20 years this July. Together for 24.
I’ve been asked twice. Said no both times.
I wish FR had a like button.
Puke.
A friend, after 2 years serious dating, finally gave her BF a put-up-or-go-away ultimatum ... seconds before he was going to pop the question.
Likewise my parents. They just kind of ... agreed ... one day while walking together.
Of course not, but she promises not to have the police forcibly evict him from the house he paid for -- at least not during the first week of the marriage.
kept? I’ve never been kept, don’t even know how to do it.
