Any FReepers have experience with Malwarebytes? Is it worth buying or is the free version enough?

I've used the Premium version for years. Never had a problem.

First rate product.

ts chat skiing, I use the free version as well as Spybot - Search & Destroy 2.

Think you should be good and safe with both and whatever you like for an antivirus.

I used windows for about 30 years, and just about the whole time, my fellow military members, mostly pilots in the air traffic control towers acting as Supervisors of Flying, were telling me, in the long run MAC is cheaper.
Of course I didn't believe them.
After I retired out of the USAF and after 5 years with the F.A.A. I finally decided that an Apple was worth giving a try.
It was only about a $100.00 more for the I-Mac at the BX and I had the funds at that time.

It's been about 16 years now that I've been using Apple, and after I compare the cost of virus programs, updates and O.S. updates, I have come to realize the hard cold fact that ... all those years, my military friends were telling me the truth.

You either pay up front .... or ... you pay in the long run.
And in the long run, Windows is MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE !

It all depends on the apps you use. I work with someone who requires things in Access format. Access is not part of the Mac version of Office, and the OpenOffice DB apps is unusable. As it is, I am using an Apple owned product, FileMaker Pro, to generate material that goes to Excel, adds a ranking function, and then gets exported to Access, where the Reports are customized.

On the hardware side, the iMac can be a good value, IF you like what they offer. The Mac Mini has not been serious updated in FIVE YEARS. The Mac Pro was bold, but the market didn't want zero slots and all external devices. Tim Cook has largely ignored the Mac.

One of the last iMacs I had was wrecked by my then three year-old, who decided to stick something in the headphone jack. He managed to do it in such a way that the internal speakers were permanently cut out, and there was no reasonable way to to effect a real repair, as replacing the main board is a major headache, and real expense as well. These aren't designed to be serviced. I got around the problem temporarily with a Bluetooth speaker. It was inelegant, but kind of worked (the Bluetooth was fussy in that Snow Leopard Generation of 23" iMac.) For me, it wasn't a cheaper solution. Too bad, as they make the best all-in-one hardware, even if it isn't very serviceable, and the OS goes obsolete before the system would die a natural death.

There are also entire categories of software that STILL aren't available for Mac (e.g. mainstream business enterprise ERP/Accounting and CRM). You can use Boot Camp, but what's the point, then?

Free version is fine. Just re-install every 30 days.

We’ve had it on our two major PCs for 18 months, and it’s been wonderful. The pay version.

Free version for home use. If you like it, they’ll give you opportunities to upgrade later.

The free version is a scanner only, and will not stop anything from getting downloaded. The paid version is a true antivirus proprogram and works well. I personally use and sell Emsisoft. It is very light and not bothersome

Excuse me for intruding, but since so many PC experts are here, I'd like some help, too, please. Thank you in advance.

My question; I have a new Dell desktop Windows 10. I dislike the W 10 and would like to go back to Widows 7 that I had previously. Would it be advisable to have this done (by an 'expert')?

One thing I hate is I lost my Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7, which was unable to be transferred to my new PC, according to the tech. This is the only photo editing I want. I've tried 'trial' versions of others without success.

I ordered the Jasc PSP old version 7 from Amazon, but a friend who knows a lot about computers tried to install it, but could not. Has anyone had any success installing it in Win 10 and having it work?

For instance, a PC user advises to “left” or “right” click but I just don’t know how to do it on an ipad or a Macbook?

Malwarebytes, CCleaner, and AVG antivirus ( all free, plus AVG Rescue Disk or bootable flash drive if you're really in trouble) does it all, if you stay away from porno and shop-on-line sites. The free versions issue requests to update, for which you respond "yes" when asked. With these, never lost productivity in about 15 years of using them. Haven't paid a dime for AV products.

I’ve been using my “JASC” Paint Shop Pro v7 from Windows ME(yeah I know), Windows Vista(again, yeah I know) and with Windows 7. When I updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10, there was no problem - except with the Help function.

I know that doesn’t help with your problem, but the above has been my experience.

No, but...

I’ve run into this issue with other software and the best way to run legacy programs that have been broken by new os’s is to run then in a virtual machine. It’s been a while so I can’t recommend one off the top of my head but there are freeware packages like VMWare and Windows Virtual Machine that would probably work for you. Setup is a bit of a chore - you really do have to read the manual but I got it working without too much effort. I do believe you have to have an original installation disk for the comparable version of Windows you need to need to get the software up and running again.

Good luck.

The Mac mouse button is analogous to the left-mouse button in Windows (for a right handed person). You can plug a USM mouse into a Mac and get some right button functionality, but the traditional way is to cntl-click if you have a one button mouse.

Free version is fine, then get Super AntiSpyWare ... also free. Then you are covered.
