A student who flushed her hamster down the toilet when Spirit told her she couldn't fly home with it, is now attempting to sue the airline for causing emotional distress.
Aldecosea, a Miami Beach High graduate, insists her doctor approved her hamster as a certified emotional support animal, and had the medical certificate to prove it when she went to the airport.
She's bought the adorable rodent after developing a large but benign growth in her neck last year.
'She was so loving. It was like she knew I needed somebody,' said Aldecosea, a six-feet tall volleyball star who helped lead her school, Miami Beach to back-to-back National District Championships and was named Most Valuable Player, before joining Barry University in Florida where she joined the volleyball team.

Couldnt she have found an animal lover there!? Or maybe she is the only hamster nut around and Spirit airlines made the cardinal sin of hurting one of the open mental health system that our society has become, walking on eggs around these nuts
It would if you tried to flush it.
Your last name Weinstein?

So she plays competitive sports at the college level? What does she do with her emotional support hamster during the games? I would think it doesn’t get much more stressful than that.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was an awesome post...nice job!
I don't know why, but it reminded me of this old Outpost.com commercial from the 1999 Super Bowl that enraged animal rights people, but the rest of us laughed our butts off (because we understood it was a joke): Gerbils fired from cannon!
I love this thread!
Scam!
No offense meant : )
But I do recall about 2 years ago, going to my nieces step sons HS graduation and this woman stat down next to me had a Chihuahua with one of those service animal vests on that anyone can buy on-line. The dog was yappy and disruptive, at one point was clawing at my arm and when I shot her a dirty look and asked, actually told her to move, she told me This is my service animal and I dont have to do anything of the sort.
Last year I was in a Lowes and the man had some sort of mutt, again with the phony service animal vest and was on one of those long retractable leashes, and the dog was running up to people jumping on them, at one point knocked down a little kid and then lifted his leg and pissed all over some merchandise. The man paid no attention what so ever.
I have no problem with legitimate service dogs, like I said, trained seeing eye dogs or dogs that are trained to help someone in a wheel chair such as a paraplegic, but this sort of abuse makes it difficult for those with legitimate service dogs.
And Im sorry, but no one needs an emotional support animal and even if they think they do, they certainly shouldnt be gaming the system to take their pets with them everywhere. And yes, that includes people with PTSD. Sure an animal may be therapeutic or comforting in such cases but way too many times they are not specially trained or even properly trained or socialized as a pet.
If you cant leave the house or fly on an airplane without your hamster, you need psychiatric help.
Oh my god! (Thats funny)
Thats all fine and good but 1) you are assuming that this girls story it true and 2) you must think that a rodent possible getting loose and running around an airplane cabin mid-flight wouldnt be a problem.
So she plays competitive sports at the college level? What does she do with her emotional support hamster during the games?

If her actions here are any indication, she puts it in the ball. Hamsters love exercise balls.
Where do they find these people?
I agree. There are times to be diplomatic, and times to ridicule.
Like you, I don’t believe there is ever any need to be cruel to animals, but like you said...PETA is fair game!
I like dogs...I really do...but not where I’m eating and not where I have to stay cooped up in a tiny chair with my hands folded across my chest like in an airplane..and any other animals are 100x worse....
What I don’t get, Cherry, is the lack of concern for people who have pet allergies.
I seem to remember the panic about peanuts, whereby anyone on a plane who so much as farted from a Mr. Peanut product would be dragged off in chains.
I’ve got medicine for my allergies but if my inhaler fails on a long flight or a particular animal hits me real hard, I’m a goner.
Thats funny! Never heard of “Bob & Tom”.
Local radio morning show jocks that went national. Some of the best comedians get on their show.
