Days after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents descended on dozens of Northern California businesses, labor leaders and immigration activists worry one of the largest rounds of workplace audits in years will cast even deeper fears across immigrant communities, pushing them further into the shadows.

Times have changed.
There is nothing bad about this action and the others taking place across the nation.
Whatever happened to “guest workers”?
Here’s the choice you have Democrats: give up the criminals or give up everyone else. What to do, what to do.
You mean since Sessions took two minutes away from his nap to shoot off a memo to the Director of ICE, now hes fulfilled his duties and can just sit back and bask in the glory of a job well done?
This is the kind of pressure that will lead to self-deportation.
Once there is a real fear of deportation, illegals that have any possessions- or even a business, home, vehicles begin to think about what would happen if they are deported. Then they realize if they leave on their own they can decide what happens to the things they have accumulated.
This is very real and is beginning to happen. I saw a man moving a drywall company to Mexico- trucks with cargo trailers, all the tools he had accumulated. Three families and a business went back south. He was at the gas station telling people he was moving his business and family back to Mexico, he said it was time. I think he was surprised that no one reacted with sadness to his story.
It begins as a trickle but if the pressure increases so does the movement out of the country. Self-deportation is a joke to the dims but it is a reality.
Further into the shadows? Oh that is funny. They are rioting in the streets, demanding amnesty. Theres no shadow at all.
I believe the strategy is incorrect. We should do these audits in the other states, forcing the illegals to relocate to mexifornia en masse. They want ‘em, they can have ‘em.
I would like to see a body cam of that just to see the fruit cases faces!
you against states rights ?
What a load of crap you lame brains labor under.
What a stupid question. Immigration laws fall under the authority of the federal government.
where is the constitution does it say that ?
the 10th amendment says its a states rights issue
The 10th amendment says nothing of the sort.
California making US citizens? God help us.
only a citizen can live in the US ?
Of course not, there are several categories of legal residence which are established by Congress. And the decision as to who is legal and who is not is a federal issue.
Federal authority over immigration is established explicitly in the Constitution, “To establish a uniform rule of naturalization....” Article I, Section 8, paragraph 4.
funny - naturalization is not immigration
Naturalization is the process by which immigration leads to citizenship or legal residency within the nation. For all extents and purposes it totally controls immigration.
Naturalization shows that the process of immigration is a federal prerogative.
Why would you try and get rid of the concept of “Illegal Alien” using such obviously fallacious reasoning? California is to determine who gets US citizenship is the most ridiculous idea in a decade and would totally destroy the nature of our country.
