When we came home tonight, my husband smelled cooking coming from a neighbors place, and said it reminded him of a childhood favorite, Tuna Noodle Casserole. He hasnt made it in a long time, but grew up on a recipe that used the typical canned-soup approach.
On the food network site, Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond has a from-scratch recipe that looks a lot better:

Another recipe from prepared items that we used to make was Corned Beef Hash, using canned corn beef and mashed potatoes. But if you are having corned beef for St. Patricks day, heres a more interesting recipe for your leftovers, from the Happy Money Saver site:

We were impressed and yes they were older guys. Lots of coyotes around here, we have lost a few cats that way I’m sure. We can hear their pups crying in the valley when they are young. We stopped at a garage sale a couple of years ago and the guy had a coyote hunter bumper sticker on his car. When I commented on it he showed us his barn’s attached showroom full of hanging pelts. Pretty cool.
Have you tried mixing the wet in with some dry? That’s what we did.
No! That’s an adorable dog!
We have a 13 year old 3/4 maltese and 1/4 yorkie. A great companion.
Thank you! Ill be making it shortly. Ill probably try it with salmon first.
And thank you for your service!
Beautiful Love that Bernese coloring and he does not look too big.
I met him years ago in NO. Use his cookbook for seafood, which we love.
Ive bought that before but never knew what to do with it. I tried it to substitute enchilada sauce once and that didnt work out very well. It doesnt work in a spaghetti sauce :-) but covering meatloaf thatll be fantastic
I think it still comes that way? At least the bigger cans. I did find some smaller ones that were the size of tuna and those were boneless. But theres a lot of waste when you have to take out the liquid, bones, and skin. Not much left!
Dittos, thanks for your servce. We had another ex military cook JRandomFreeper who was a frequent poster here. And there is Diana in Wisconsin who is not only a vet but she owns a mule!
Those bones are supposed to be a good source of calcium. I didnt think I was supposed to eat them though! I even take the bones out of sardines. Just knowing theyre there makes me squeamish.
I will ditto that!
Thats a beautiful loaf! What is it and how did you form it to look like that? I only know how to do a simple braid.
My corduroy just loves to eat, anything. The vet says he was built for comfort not for speed. Persians tend to be a little on the hefty side anyway.
Poor Roy had struvite crystals so he is on a special prescription diet food. Super expensive! I bought him the canned but he doesnt like it, but he loves the kibble.
His sister cotton also had struvite crystals, but sent she has grain allergies I was at a loss what to feed her. so I started making her a raw food diet, adding that protein that acidifies the urine so the crystals wont form. Shes been on it for about eight years and is pretty healthy so I guess shes getting everything she needs. Its a pain making it and especially feeding it to her, since she wont eat the chicken when it has cooked the least little bit when I warm it in the microwave. Im thinking about giving Roy the same food, hes less picky and if I accidentally cook the chicken hell be fine with it.
Max, the outside cat that is currently inside because it is cold out, will eat anything. He really likes the others food. Same with the dog.
So feeding time around here is chaotic! And everybody tries to eat everybody elses food.
I remember the good old days when I just had normal cats and no dog and all I did was leave out one bowl all day long. I didnt know I had it so easy. Actually, I had two bowls, one wet and one dry. Still easy!
Your cat sound adorable. And I love the way you describe them :-)
We’re empty nesters now. I crockpot a whole chicken and we can easily eat 4-5 meals off of it. Roast chicken with potatoes and veg the first meal, a couple casseroles, sandwiches, and soup or chicken and dumplings with the broth.
Flavorful chicken in the crockpot relies on a spice heavy rub, lots of black pepper, paprika, ginger, and garlic and onion powders. make a thick paste with olive oil and coat the chicken. I put the chicken on top of the veg I am cooking with it. The veg will keep the chicken above and out of the liquid that develops and will flavor the broth.
That sounds delicious. My issue is hubby does not care much for leftovers. But I think I will try it I have used the crockpot a lot over the years but have never roasted anything in it. Thanks!
Be careful with the salt, otherwise your broth will be too salty. I put the broth in the refrigerator overnight and then remove the solidified fat.
Last time I did a chicken we had roast chicken for Sunday dinner, leftover chicken went into chicken and dressing with asparagus, poppyseed casserole with peas, pulled chicken sandwiches, and chicken and dumplings. I scale back casserole recipes so that they only make 3-4 servings.
We don’t do a whole week’s worth of chicken recipes. I keep shredded chicken in one cup portions in the freezer for later use.
