A German-made tank, which Berlin once dubbed one of the best in the world, has had its shortcomings embarrassingly exposed on the battlefield in Syria. Photos from the Turkish military operation dubbed 'Euphrates Shield', which began in August 2016, show the charred remains of one of the Leopard 2 tanks which was reportedly blown up with mines.

That is kind of the way I see it, but...I would guess (as you say) if you don’t have good tactics and support, someone is going to put a munition up your rear end...
Tanks are really obsolete, in their current configuration.
There are anti-tank missiles on both sides of the battle lines that can disable any tank very quickly.
Robot tanks would save lives and could be made more impervious to antitank weapons if there were no human on board to protect.
The bottom of the tank and the treads are the most vulnerable spots and always have been..................
Thanks for the ping.
You may be right on that.
You’re welcome. In a partial defense of Leopard IIs being destroyed by landmines, a big enough land mine will destroy any tank. My cousin’s husband was fortunate enough to survive when his Sheridan light tank detonated a NVA landmine that was made from a previously dud U.S. 500 pound bomb in 1970 during the Cambodian incursion.
And to my fellow tankers, yes I know that the M-551 Sheridan was officially an “Armored Reconnaissance/Airborne Assault Vehicle.”
I heard a rumor about two years ago that Erdogan approached Netanyahu for the Merkava.
Fwiw.

The way I see the photos and as others have pointed out I would go with the not properly supported/tactics belief.
None of these pictures show armor penetration from a missile/RPG but rather bottom up mine damage. You’ll also notice the top panels on the turret are blown upwards as designed in case of an ammo bake off.
The Turks probably believe they can send in a platoon of armor and pick stuff off at will with no support.
