The Masons, who are they

I am curious if anyone knows anything about the Masons. You always hear about them and how they are super secretive. You always hear how they ride to places of great power and they love to put their symbols all over the place secretly. But what do they stand for? What are their beliefs? I really have no idea.

I've been a Mason for 30+ and have never seen a Koran in a Lodge. Blue Lodge, Scottish rite, or Shrine. The only secrets in Masonry are how to tell if you are a mason. It is a fraternal service organization the median age is moving up to about 60 now days.

Heard that years ago pre Vatican II the Catholic Church forbid its members from being Masons. Not sure what the rule is today but then the Catholic Church isn’t Catholic anymore.

Then the lodge of which he was a member had a Muslim member. It’s customary to have the holy books of the faiths of the members present (if they so desire). In the US the Bible is default and the only one that is opened, but others may be placed next to it.

It’s also hogwash. Masons no more deny the divinity of Christ than the PTA or your bowling league does. Oh - the PTA and your bowling league don’t have positions on the divinity of Christ? Well, neither do the Masons. The Masons require a member to believe in God, but simply take no position on the truth or falsity of any member’s religious beliefs.

I am a Master Mason here in Texas and proud of it. I am part a fraternity of men that is the oldest in the world starting in 1717. The things we are not are a church, we don’t have sacraments or dogma. We only ask a Master Mason to believe in a supreme being, their religion is their own because no atheist can be come a Mason. A lot of people don’t understand what we do, we are just a fraternity and that charity is only secondary. The fraternity endeavors to make good men better, the brotherhood of man and the fatherhood of God. There are only 3 degrees in Masonry, Entered Apprentice(1st), Fellowcraft(2nd) and Master Mason(3rd); there is nothing higher. Once you are a Master Mason, you are always a Master Mason. The rest of the degrees of the York Rite and Scottish(French) Rite are honorary and hold no power or hierarchy over Master Masons. The officer that has jurisdiction over all Master Masons in Texas or any other state is the Grand Master and he only serves one year. If you need more details go to Masonicinfo.com.

I grew up in the Lutheran Church, and it was forbidden to be a Mason. The ELCA Lutherans dropped that rule.. Well the LCMS & Wisconsin Evangelical Synod Lutherans still have it. Catholics still have the rule.

Masonry is not a religious organization, it is a Fraternal one. It's very similar to swearing on the Bible when you take public office. It actually makes it a very American institution in that there is freedom of religion as long as your believe in a Supreme Being - no Atheists involved and no proselytizing in the Lodge.
