FULL TITLE: Moment distraught mom of a seven-year-boy films her son being cuffed by police and then taken for a psychiatric evaluation after school officials say he 'punched a teacher'

A Miami mother of a seven-year-old boy expressed outrage on Saturday when she saw her son handcuffed by police after he is said to have hit his teacher and then taken to a mental institution.

Mercy Alvarez was in tears as she saw her son leave the principal’s office at the Coral Way K-8 Center in Miami escorted by a police officer on Thursday.

The officer handcuffed the boy after school officials said he was acting up.

The incident was reported by the Miami Herald.

Alvarez has permitted the media to show her son's face. She has also stated her desire for the media to disseminate the distressing footage of her son being led away in handcuffs.

If his parents were truly parents, they would beat the little brat’s ass for punching the teacher.

Thanks for so publicly demonstrating why my little case is rather well founded. It took time away from counting all your thank you notes and Sunday humility, certainly.

Do you mean money for the parents to get help for their child because that kind of treatment is expensive

Yep. Schools get a boost too just like they do for forcing kids into ESL classes.

School Administrators should make it clear to students & parents that violence will not be tolerated & that a first offense will result in arrest & expulsion. Then make it so.

Well, if she hadn’t failed him this wouldn’t have happened. She failed to teach him to respect other, especially individuals in position of responsibility. But, on her behalf this is something many American families are failing to do. I blame this on families now needing two incomes and the constant Democratic party attacks on family values. They promote it takes a village (government).

That’s funny. I’d say that is an irrelevant comment.

Exactly but that is exactly the response teachers get when they fail to educate /control these kids. Believe me I know.

I read “Up the Down Staircase” at a formative age so I know what you mean. So often in life the realities are ignored for politically convenient fantasies and the person on the front lines gets nothing to work with and takes all the heat.

It may not be politically correct but schools need to be able to remove disruptive children from classes and work with them in a more structured environment with teachers who are able to deal with their issues. That is what’s fair to the children who want to learn and would give the disrupters a clear signal so they might choose to change their behavior.

“Kid gives a look of total distain”

You noticed too? That other kid that was arrested was at least crying. He was cursing but crying. Not this punk. He just gives an evil look.

Point well taken Sarah but sometimes even we reach the limits of our FR Coffee (patent pending) and mistakes do happen.

It's kind of counterintuitive because most people who have kids like that have good ins. Like Medicaid. And middle class people get caught in those things, too, through no fault of their own. Also some lower income, some of them try to be effective parents, too.

Sock him one?
No, but reportedly a football player did.
And nobody was surprised when it happened.
But I did tell him to kiss my backside.

You wouldn't have disruptive students if you were motivating them.

See how that works. I gave it up 17 years ago.

Obama and company determined that more blacks were being expelled from schools than whites. That’s racism.

Therefore, schools aren’t allowed to expel the thugs. Doesn’t matter if the other kids can’t learn because their school can’t discipline. Just can’t have a disparate impact on black kids.

This child likely would have been expelled before it came to this if the school weren’t saddled with these new rules.

Agreed...when I grew up, I can’t, in a million years, imagine ever hitting an adult of any kind, teacher, neighbor, nothing...unless they were physically assaulting me. (Being paddled did not fall into that category of physical assault)

Not as a 7 year old. Not as a teenager. I would have faced worse if I got home.

Hard to understand this mindset of this mother, never mind the kid.

Hehehehe...I LOVE that scene! The whole thing, with the little desks, the way she seems to float to the top of the stairs at the end of the scene...too funny!

When I went to the site and saw that picture, that was exactly what I thought...exactly.

That is a disturbing look from a 7 year old in handcuffs.

I sense the sociopathic mother is fishing for a big payday, and you can’t do that without good video. She apparently forgot to tell him to act upset like a normal 7 year old would be in cuffs.

There is a federal law that says a child must be schooled in the least restrictive environment. Open to interpretation I guess because it always reverts to the classroom with the other kids. The smart kids try very hard to get transferred to Continuation School (bad kids school??) where they get small group and individualized instruction.
