A man was spotted with a cat on the hood of his SUV earlier this week, and people who saw it thought it was not only weird but perhaps it was a case of animal cruelty. But the owner of the cat, Jesse Dorsett Jr., said his three felines, Pixie, Dixie and Mister Jinks, love going for rides.

That is one unusual cat, most of them freak out in a car to the point that they have to be contained in a carrier. He’s just so totally relaxed laying there on his back on the dashboard, watching the world sail past through the windshield. It’s actually sort of relaxing to watch, lol.

Cats certainly do like travelling IN cars. I know that for a fact because our cats loved to jump in the car, along with our dog, even when just going to the grocery store etc.

p.s. I can't believe I'm arguing about a cat on a car hood. I guess I'll argue about anything. Life can be so boring.

Well, FR is certainly more fun than a lot of other pastimes :-)

I had one who used to paw the windows and cry plaintively when another car went by, as if begging for someone else to rescue her. So embarrassing. In the carrier, out of the carrier, she was hysterical. The only thing she would accept was draping herself around the back of my neck as I drove. She would also stay on my shoulder like that if I stopped at an interstate rest stop to use the rest room.

But then I had another one who was much more intellectual than that hysterical one. She liked it if I put a duffel bag on the console between the front seats, high enough so she could see over the dash and look at the road and the traffic as we drove. She was the smartest kitty ever.

They’re all so different. One thing I noticed, though, having owned quite a few cats, is that it doesn’t take long for most of them to start recognizing familiar landscapes, and start behaving happily or expectantly when we come within a half-mile or so of home.
