Walmart was set to face a discrimination lawsuit Friday after a woman claimed African American hair products were locked behind glass at a California store.
Famed attorney Gloria Allred held an afternoon news conference Friday.
"It was something I had to stand up for," the mom said. "I would like the glass to go down, and for things to go back to the way it was, where it's not segregated and everything is where everyone can get what they need."

I took my mom to a Walmart last summer in Asheville. I needed some L’oreal sunblock. Was shocked to see it locked up along w/ the other creams & serums. You had to get a sales associate to unlock it & pay for it right then.
I had never seen that before. She said all the creams etc. Were their most stolen products. Yet again law abiding people can’t leisurely browse & read labels because of thieves.
“No, all razor blades”
My post said, “Electric razor.” ;-)
Again, I apologize, deepest sympathy, etc.
Well, liquor stores lock up the high-priced, boutique spirits up as well because people steal what they want and cannot easily afford regardless of their color. Products that have high shrinkage und up in locked cabinets - end of story.
The best thing that could happen is if someone would tell this frustrated shoplifter to get a goddamned job so that she could buy her hair relaxer instead of wanting to steal it and being denied the opportunity.
I’m not a fan of Wal-Mart....I’ve even been tossed out of one of the local stores for allegedly starting a fight and was basically told not to come back. Now, I just stay out of their stores to keep from killing some low-life idiot that wants to fight, but the wife goes in occasionally. In their defense; it’s their store and it’s their products until purchased. What is under lock & key is NOT due to racism, it’s due to theft....period. Now, if certain segments of society tend to steal more than others, then that’s on them, not on Wal-Mart. I don’t blame em for locking stuff up that gets stolen. They lose millions every year to theft.
Exactly right, I have noticed that too.
” we take this situation seriously and look forward to addressing it with the court,” a spokesman said...””
They’re going to court. I doubt Allred is going to hang in there without a quick settlement. Walmart isn’t going to settle. They have the data to prove they’re simply managing shrinkage.
Yeah, Im saying ALL blades are locked. In fact I think for drugs they really want the manual. For making lines or something.
Wait, where you brawling over a Cabbage Patch Kid? :D
Those are wildly varying wax colors for being the same!
I hope so.
Walmart also keeps their flash drives and SD cards behind locked glass, as well as ammo, cameras and laptops. Basically anything of value that can be stuffed inside of clothing.
Yes, well, it seems really easy for thieves to pocket small and some bigger items. Walmart has a choice to make thievable items available behind glass or not carry the items at all. I am very willing to get an Associate to get what I want if it is behind glass.
Poor pitiful lady with her head all ascrew thinking of ways to claim the racist card. And Allred should be hung out to dry. Terrible antiamerican lawyer. Maybe she can be disbarred.
Ammo at Walmart is under lock-and-key, too.
Yep. I taught in the ‘hood for 23 years. I was getting a cold and stopped into a drug store across the street from the school to grab some Robitussin.
When I walked in, the whole drug store was behind 3” thick, bullet proof glass. You had to wait for a clerk, ask for what you wanted, s/he would get it, bring it to a slide-under and once you paid, you’d get your item.
So *these people* are used to this precaution. They are lying if they are shocked/triggered.
We have a sixteen-year-old daughter who has long, course, and very curly hair (natural), who prefers to purchase and use those same products said to be made for “African-Americans.” So, they are NOT just made for “minority” hair.
That happens to products that are stolen a lot
But, but they have a right to them!
