WASHINGTON — President Trump ordered the firing last June of Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel overseeing the Russia investigation, according to four people told of the matter, but ultimately backed down after the White House counsel threatened to resign rather than carry out the directive.
The West Wing confrontation marks the first time Mr. Trump is known to have tried to fire the special counsel. Mr. Mueller learned about the episode in recent months as his investigators interviewed current and former senior White House officials in his inquiry into whether the president obstructed justice.
Amid the first wave of news media reports that Mr. Mueller was examining a possible obstruction case, the president began to argue that Mr. Mueller had three conflicts of interest that disqualified him from overseeing the investigation, two of the people said.

Can I give Trump a suggestion on how to handle immigration? Just enforce the laws on the books. That is all he has to do. That simple. Send troops to the border instead of Afghanistan. No agonizing over “dreamers”, DACA, etc. Simple path forward.
Then after November election, a grateful electorate will give him more allies to end chain migration, drastically cut legal immigration and base it on a merit system.

Actually time is on the side of the Dems, which is why your suggestion will ultimately be forced on Trump. They simply WILL NOT give up on Chain Migration, as that is the only path for them to be remain a national party.
Eventually, Trump will be gone and they will either have a Republican idiot they can roll, or, more likely a Democrat eager to sign the bill that puts the final nail in this country. But for now, with nothing coming from DACA, they’ll just keep the millions of new, Third World, arrivals flowing in, unabated.
As to Trump, I don’t know what he ultimately thinks, but since nothing will change, Trump can at least make a credible claim that he tried to help the Dreamers, but was thwarted by the Dems.
