The icon, who will be presented with a lifetime achievement at the Grammys on Sunday, has cancelled the third leg of his world tour on the advice of his doctor. Neil Diamond has officially announced his retirement from touring due to his recent Parkinson’s diagnosis.
The third leg of his 50th Anniversary tour, which was set to launch in March across Australia and New Zealand, has been cancelled as was medically recommended by his doctor. Fans who already purchased tickets will be refunded in full.
“I plan to remain active in writing, recording and other projects for a long time to come,” the singer wrote in a statement Monday on his website. “My thanks goes out to my loyal and devoted audiences around the world. You will always have my appreciation for your support and encouragement. This ride has been ‘so good, so good, so good’ thanks to you.”
Diamond will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy at the Grammy Awards on Sunday.
You may like his songs better than Elvis' songs, but Neil certainly never had the vocal range of Elvis.
Wow he’s older than I thought he was. Time to hang it up after an amazing career and nothing lasts forever in this life.
Wife and I saw him live at the Greek in LA in the early ‘80’s. One of the best shows ever. Great showman, singer and song writer.

I do think there is one notable similarity between Elvis and Neil; both were fabulous in their early years, then kind of morphed into lounge lizards as they aged.
Neil has been one of MY favorites for more years than I care to think about... Neil and Barbra’s duet is a classic.. Back in the 60’s, a NY DJ, Murray (The K) Kaufman said: “I love Neil Diamond, He’s a GEM”...
a few years ago I saw a video clip of one of his live concerts at the time and he sounded absolutely awful. I loved all his songs when he was in his prime but sometimes you just have to know when to quit.

Musicians these days have to tour to make money.
My 80 year old father in law has had Parkinsons for over a decade now. His hands are shaky, he's unsteady on his feet (but his knees are shot anyway) but he's still alive and with his family. He's not as active now, of course, mostly because he can't walk due to his knees. But Neil isn't necessarily on death's door due to this.
Saw him here in Calgary about a year ago and he put on a great show.
Hot August Night is an amazing piece of work.

A few years ago he played a show in Columbus, Ohio where he was not in good form, and drew a lot of negative reviews.
The next day he posted an apology for the poor performance on his website, and offered a refund out of his own pocket to anybody who wanted one.
He really impressed me as a stand-up guy with that.

I saw/heard McCartney perform "Maybe I'm Amazed" live on a TV show a couple of years ago.
His attempts to reach the signature "high" notes in the song were truly painful.

Elvis wasn’t that old. I’ve read that he was devastated by his divorce from Priscilla and he turned to drugs and overeating.

McCartney does a lot of concerts now. I’m pretty sure his fans don’t care about his voice. They just want to experience the event and be near him.
Frank Sinatra blazed the path to obtuseness. He continued ‘performing’ long after his voice deteriorated into why-bother.
I’m sad for him. Refuah shelemah, prayers for healing.
One of my earliest memories was laying on the shag carpet in front of the stereo listening to my dad’s Neil Diamond albums.
Love that he got to see how popular he still is, with the commercials and pro games playing Sweet Caroline etc.
