Greetings from Missouri. How goes it with everyone? Nice sunshine day today. Moderate weather. Night time right around freezing. Looking for temps in 50s tomorrow.

Watered the indoor plants today. Time to start harvesting the Lemons. May sweep the patio tomorrow. I have been reading about the Grand Solar Minimum that we are going through. It's been named the Eddy minimum.

Quite a lot of quakes and volcanoes this week especially in the ring of fire. Pacific plate has been slipping a lot. The big quake along New Madrid happened during the Dalton minimum, IIRC.

Just ran out of pickled beets. Still have some plain ones, will plan on doing more pickled ones this year.

Prayers up for all. Have a great weekend. God Bless.

Hi greeneyes, prayers for you too. We love our pickled beets still have 5 or 6 pints left. We try and ration them out so they last a year. Nothing growing here but alfalfa sprouts.

Seeds from Parks and Jungs have been received.
Our beach house will provide us with seedlings in a few weeks.

Hello.

Can anyone provide me with a link to a high quality heirloom seed company?

Also, can anyone recommend heirloom varieties of:

Largest, meatiest tomatoes.

Watermelon. They have to be fast growing as I have a short season and I have had limited success with large oval varieties. (Unless you know a fast growing large oval variety that will mature quickly in a short season).

Largest, sweetest strawberries.

Brussels sprouts

Cauliflower

Lettuce.

Thank-you.

My indoor plants are doing fine. I’m enjoying the fact it’s getting darker past 530 PM now.

I’m so sorry you’re out of pickled beets. I still have some - I’ve been hoarding them because they are my favorite. I’ll have to plant more beets next year too - what I had didn’t go far enough.

What I need less of is butternut squash. I have way too many of them, but luckily they kept until May or so in the basement last year.

Warm and wet here in Central Missouri over the weekend.

I’m pretty much over the pneumonia, but still not up to full speed. I threw my back out unloading firewood last weekend and it’s been aggravating me ever since. Got a few things done around the house, but nothing that required much manual labor.

Next weekend maybe I’ll get something accomplished that’s worthwhile. I hope.

I’m thinking I will use some seeds I’ve been saving. Missouri would probably be fairly similar to NC in terms of when to plant outdoors.

I will plant tomato seeds and also some peppers.

When do you think I should plant my seeds indoors in order for them to be ready to plant at the right time outdoors?

Wild weather swings the last couple of weeks: anywhere from single digit highs, to above freezing lows & back again.

7” of snow & an 8 hour power outage Saturday & Saturday night. At least we have wood heat; a standing-pilot stove & oven; and oil lamps & candles, as well as a ton of flashlights.

Today, I ordered a package of honey bees; and bought a “complete” hive. Of course, that includes only the bottom brood box; I’ll have to add another ‘pantry box’ for the second story, and 2 or 3 honey supers for harvesting.

Also made a start on buying essential equipment for working with the bees.

We’re hoping they’ll do a better job of pollinating for us in early Spring, when the apricots are in bloom. We really have a dearth of pollinators. 50 or so pounds of honey in the Fall wouldn’t hurt, either.

Daytime temperatures have risen to the high 50’s - low 60’s. Planted my daffy bulbs yesterday and watered well. Pulled back the coverings of the gardening pots and got a pleasant surprise. Pansies doing well, even blooming and lettuce seeds have sprouted. Need to water everything and going to use what I was able to save when the faucets were dripping to prevent pipes freezing.
