NFL commissioner Roger Goodell defended the leagues declining TV ratings Sunday, pointing out that 20 of the 30 highest-rated shows in 2017 were NFL games.
Nielsen television ratings data backs up Goodells argument. NBCs Sunday Night Football and ESPNs Monday Night Football were the most-watched shows every week in each key male demographic.
However, Nielsens numbers also show that NFL television ratings fell 9.7 percent during the 2017 regular season. In 2016, the ratings fell 8 percent. The average game in 2017 had 1.6 million fewer viewers than in 2016.
We always want ratings to go up, but were 37 of the top 50 shows, which is higher than ever, Goodell told reporters in Jacksonville before the Jaguars wild-card playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.
Were likely to be the No. 1 show on Fox excuse me on all of television, the Fox Sunday afternoon game. Sunday night, prime time is for the seventh year in a row the No. 1 show. Thursday night football is No. 2. I think dominance of the NFL in television is still very clear.
Goodell also said the league has made other efforts to expand its viewing audience. The NFL and Verizon partnered to stream in-market and national games. The league also teamed with Amazon to stream 10 Thursday night games this season.
I see what you did there...LOL
A good prospect...I'd say.
Not saying much, Mr. Commissioner. All of broadcast TV is sagging because of streaming entertainment.
Going to love it when the networks bid on the next NFL contract. Just because they networks are covering for you now doesn't mean they aren't going to act in their financial self-interest in the future.
Goodell’s continued employment and giant salary is sufficient reason to run the NFL into the ground.
I noticed the Chief’s Arrowhead Stadium was full but I looked at tickets earlier in the week and they were selling pretty cheap. I’ve NEVER seen cheap tickets like that before for a Chiefs home playoff game.
Goodell and his commie cronies have done more damage to the league than they ever will admit.

Sure thing, it’s fine, just keep doing what you are doing.
Add some more penalties and plays to review if you get a chance.
Great. But I won’t be watching until the SJW nonsense stops.
Or spending a dime.
They gotta get their streaming operations updated and rolled out. I think their biggest problem, outside the boycott, is cable cutters, losing their NFL and not really caring.

“I noticed the Chiefs Arrowhead Stadium was full”
I wonder how many regretted going?
1 SJW whose Mommie will give him the money to buy any shiny thing advertisers show is worth 3 adult viewers.
No doubt, the tickets weren't cheap enough, lol.
Normally, I would have thought about going but I vowed not to spend any money till the NFL cleans up its commie act and gets rid of Goodell and his cronies.
One thing I did forget to mention was the last two home games for the Chiefs, being in the middle of a division title chase and playoff spot, I noticed many empty seats in the stands. I've never seen this before either when the Chiefs were fighting for a playoff spot.

Football?? Whats a football?
THAT !
Well okay then Goodell. Must be why I don’t watch NFL anymore.
