With a nearly perfect free skate on Friday, the rising star Bradie Tennell won her first national title and almost certainly earned a spot on the American team for next months Olympics.

Update: Bradie, along with Mirai Nagasu and Karen Chen just made the Olympic team. Ashley Wagner, who finished 4th, did not make the team.
I watched this last night, masterful performances to all three fop contenders, Olympics team shaping up nicely.
So Ashley Wagner’s support team did not conspire to have Bradie Tennell clubed in the knee?
I am really happy that Ashley Wagner did not make it.
She looks like Chelsea Clinton if Chelsea were a girl.
Congratulations to Bradie, Mirai and Karen!!
What a great team.
Hope they bring home Gold, Silver and Bronze from South Korea next month.
Been a long drought in Ladies’ Figure Skating at the Olympics since Tara Lipinski won in 1998 and Sarah Hughes won in 2002.
Bradie looks like the best complete performer since Tara.
It was wonderful to see Mirai gain sweet revenge after being robbed last time around in the selection process.
And, Karen, last year’s National Champion, rose to the occasion as well.
Glad Ashley will have to watch from home this time. I think she is overrated and has a terrible personality.
Go Bradie, Mirai and Karen and bring home Olympic medals!!!
Then, it’s on to the White House to celebrate with President Trump!!
They made Ashley Wagner the face of US figure skating and the winter olympics. I wonder if living up to that was too much.
You’re so bad! Chelsea Webbsdottir is indeed a girl, but you’re right, Bradie does look like her cute sister. Also, I like that her name is Bradie. It would be awesome to have Bradie and Brady visit the White House after their respective February victories!
Care to explain why? Not a criticism, just wondering.
“So Ashley Wagners support team did not conspire to have Bradie Tennell clubed in the knee?”
Too early to tell.
I watched Tenell’s performance and it was masterful. Good luck to all our skaters.
Also, IMHO, Miria Nagasu was wronged 4 years ago when she wasn’t chosen to go to Sochi. I hope she does well in Korea.
I also remember that every time a Soviet or Chi-Com skater came on, my mother shouting at the TV saying FALL! FALL! FALL!
A year or so after Fleming won the Gold Metal, I got to see her skate in the Ice Capades when it came to the Hershey (PA) arena. I kept that program for many years. I wish I still had it.
It ain’t over til it’s over. Ashley got 4th place in 2014 and made it.
They can’t change the rules now!!
I prefer a more humble skater.
America’s women skaters have their work cut out for them, though.
They haven’t won a world title or an Olympic medal since 2006.This is the biggest medal drought for them since before World War 2.
In the meantime, women skaters from Russia, Japan, and Canada have dominated the sport.
I blame Title Nine for this. Figure skating is perceived as a traditional “girl sport.” When the money starts going to ice hockey and snowboarding a lot of the girls are going to leave the ice skates behind.
The United States has done much better at the Winter Olympics the last few times around, due in no small measure to the efforts of her female competitors. But times have changed and I’m afraid ladies figure skating has been on the losing side of this trend.
I remain hopeful, however. The trio we’ll be sending to South Korea is the strongest we’ve had in a while and maybe one of them will come home with a medal around her neck.
Here’s the video of her performance. Lots of Haters in the comments. Ignore them! Jerks.

She looks like Chelsea Clinton if Chelsea had not been carrying Webb Hubbell genes. /s
