Fit-as-a-fiddle Trevor Ward still enjoys trips to the bingo and visits to the pub with his mates
He lives on his own without any assistance. I make his food for him and do his laundry and washing and his shops, which we have taken it in turns to do over the past few years.
But apart from his hearing having gone a little hes fit as a fiddle. He walks every day apart from on Sundays and meets his butties and they go together.
We think hes brilliant hes a legend. He comes out with some amazing stories and he likes telling a joke with the family.
A former miner born in Llwynypia, Trevor began work at the Cambrian Colliery as a teenager and spent 38 years underground before ending his career at Porth Textiles, taking on many other ventures in between.
He was married to wife Bessie for 75 years and is father to daughters Shirley 81, Kay, 76, and Robert 66, with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren
Even the snow doesnt stop Trevor and his friends on their rigorous daily walks and on Boxing Day happy-go-lucky Trevor, who likes a drop of whiskey, was at the pub enjoying drinks with his family.
Morwenna added: People cannot believe it when they hear how old he is he looks years younger than his age.
He doesnt age and he loves going dancing every Saturday down Tonyrefail Working Mens Club and he still goes to bingo on a Tuesday.
Whether he can hear it or not I dont know. But its a day out for Trevor and that means a lot because every day is a long day for him.
Everyone in the community knows who he is hes very well-liked. He is very positive about life. He keeps himself clean and tidy and he knows when hes going out to put his collar and tie on and he knows exactly what to wear.
He doesnt need any help and theres absolutely nothing wrong with him.
His daughter Shirley added: Hes a marvellous father and his family would like to wish him a happy and active 104th birthday.
Good for him!
And the person quoted in the article is right. Mr. Ward does not look like he is 104 years old.
My mother almost 101 has been going shopping by herself on nice days and we wish she wouldn’t.
My Mom-Mom (Dad’s Mother) lived to 103. Out lived all 3 of Her Son’s. She traveled the World in Her “younger years, 50-80) Rode Camels in the Mideast, collected 1000’s of Camel anything memorobilia, smoked unfiltered Camel Cig’s, drank Screwdrivers or Bloody Mary’s daily and RULED the Family when/where ever She was.
Her 101st Birthday somebody wanted to give Her a Cane that was Camel Theme. Handle was the head, staff the neck with a Hump halfway down and then 4 feet for the base. Really cool piece. But were scared to do so. I said give it to Me, I’ll do it.
I gave it to Her and quickly backed out of range.
She checked it out and said “I LOVE IT!”
I found out later She did smack the Cousin that got it for Her;)
The real tell all about his fortitude and genetic stock is that 38 year stint in underground coal workings in the first half of the century.
Kewel...
Did he drink a Diet Coke every day?
Hell of a Woman.
She also Signed off on All 3 Sons to join WWII while under age while She worked at a Bomb Plant.
I’m fairly sure if She had been given the chance to be in range of the zero She would have Bitch Slapped him;)
LOL!!! good on her
