An unusually powerful storm is threatening the East Coast of the U.S. this week with heavy snow, high winds, and record-shattering cold not seen in some places since the early 20th Century if at all.
The storm will be the result of a combination of three strong pieces of atmospheric energy, known to meteorologists as shortwaves.
Think of these shortwaves as protein bars for storm formation. This particular storm, which is already beginning to form off the coast of Florida, will devour enough of them to allow it to become so powerful that it will contain hurricane force winds by the time it moves off the Mid-Atlantic coast late Wednesday night.
Because of the cold air in place ahead of the storm, winter storm watches and advisories for this event have been issued as far south as Florida, all the way northward to Massachusetts, which is nearly unheard of.

Time to post a page of diff. eq.? :-)
Back on topic: I checked the Boston, MA, NWS forecast page this morning. (Have friends in area.) Looks like “no fun” if it pans out. The cold to follow is going to be “unpleasant” if there are widespread & lasting power outages.
Still, I would guess this will not be as bad as the 2009 mid-South ice storm. We had folks just up the road from us, still on generator power, 3 weeks later. A few nights were single digit cold.
It’s so cold, Hillary feels warm.
No trade, but you are welcome to visit. 😀😆😄👍🇵🇭
I would also tell them, that is my story, and Im sticking with it. 👍😁
I'm glad those days are behind me.
Once was enough.
I would love to but don’t think it’s going to work yet.
Got a Gas Fireplace almost paid off at the Vintage Hardware Store and that with a LP Tank will be final backup incase we lose Natural Gas Service. After that Ill start burning wood in a makeshift rig even if I gotta chop up the neighbors stuff for fuel.
Ran across this article, might be of some use to those looking at heat tape.

interesting, never used cable but am looking into it for the septic line
UPDATE: Posted to FB
Woohoo...water back on in the Kitchen.
Was considering buying some heat tape.
I crawled under the house to look at lines. Couldn’t see any damage.
Worked the hoses for a bit, bending and flexing them.
Didn’t hear any water flowing into kitchen above me so figured I hadn’t made any difference.
Was in the kitchen just now working on supper and thought I’d play with the tap a bit
and I got drips coming out! that built to a trickle and then a full flow...Hot and Cold!
You just reminded me of the movie "The Road".
Don't see it. Very depressing.
The book was awful.
Very monotonous.
I a big fan of the post apocalyptic genre.
I see material like that as a training manual.
Have you read Hunger Games or Divergent?
They’re similar to each other but not like The Road.
The best one I read so far, though, is One Second After.
while I am not sure of the effects of an EMP strike, the breakdown of society scenario he paints is far to realistic for my comfort.
One Second After is a fave.
I used to be a member of a survivialist board that had a lot of post apocalyptic stories: survivalistbooards.com.
Not as polished as famous novels, but interesting, and dark.
I like dark!
