An unusually powerful storm is threatening the East Coast of the U.S. this week with heavy snow, high winds, and record-shattering cold not seen in some places since the early 20th Century if at all.
The storm will be the result of a combination of three strong pieces of atmospheric energy, known to meteorologists as shortwaves.
Think of these shortwaves as protein bars for storm formation. This particular storm, which is already beginning to form off the coast of Florida, will devour enough of them to allow it to become so powerful that it will contain hurricane force winds by the time it moves off the Mid-Atlantic coast late Wednesday night.
Because of the cold air in place ahead of the storm, winter storm watches and advisories for this event have been issued as far south as Florida, all the way northward to Massachusetts, which is nearly unheard of.

Ping (sorry)
Due to........???????
We will already be dead from the Tax Cut Bill, Trumps Presidency, and/or Net Neutrality by then anyway so no worries!
A nuclear storm!
Winter storm “Gore”.
Oh lovely. So what you got here is a potential ice hurricane. There will be sharks. They'll be froze.
They have things called 10 year events, 20 year events, 100 year events, etc.
So, it might be a 100 year event. These things happen and there isn’t anything we can do about it.
Contrary to what leftists think.
Must be due to global warming. “Energy bars” must equate to warmer temperatures (cold temperatures would be something “sluggish”).
Or - it’s just weather. Actually - it sounds like a hurricane - but in the winter. And it may be feeding off warm southern ocean waters and then twisting the cold temperatures from the high into it’s leading edge.
I don’t know - but somehow it MUST be because I drove my truck today.
I dont know what, but I saw an article on one of the news sites, that the earths rotation is slowing down, so we could expect big earthquakes. I guess if global cooling and global warming didnt work, maybe the libtards will have a new meme with which to try and fleece the tax payers. Women and minorities hardest hit, again. 😁
Whatever set of conditions is necessary for it to form.
The article explains it.
This is two days out and in regards to nor’easters, it’s an eternity.
Probably the biggest factor with this storm, as any nor’easter, is the path.
The further west it goes (the closer it hugs the coast) the most snow.
The fun thing for Central NY is that as these storms pull off the coast, the winds swing around to give the Syracuse area a good hit with lake effect.
Trade?

ice hurricane” = brrrrricane
A meteorological bomb?... are the Russians involved?...white walkers?
The high on Friday here is supposed to be -2 and the winds are going to be sustained at about 20 MPH.
Going to be NASTY!!!!!!
Wind chills about -25.
It will be raining frozen sharks!
“These things happen and there isnt anything we can do about it.”
You CAN (and should) do a lot of things. My brother-in-law in NJ a couple years ago got hit by a big winter storm. They had several days notice. Afterwards he emailed complaining about how he ran out of food, no batteries for the flashlights, one candle, etc. “And I couldn’t even drive to the store - even if they WERE open.”
Oh - you meant do anything about the weather.....
Our neighborhood lost power in a snow/ice storm for 10 days back in 2004 or so. We took in the elderly gal next door so she would freeze. We all stayed and slept in the downstairs with the wood-burning stove and cooked on it too. Me, wife, neighbor and three kids.
I went to the store once - the marshmallows were stale for s’mores. Just as a matter of pride that is all I bought, although the store did have other stuff that might have come in handy. The gal said “That’s it?” “Yep - my planning wasn’t as good as I thought.”
My wife DID run out several days beforehand to get milk and bread which was nice to have - but we would have been fine without it.
“But that’s what you do when a storm is coming! Go to the store and buy milk and bread. My mom always did that!”
High of 84 degrees today in 92270.
