So what are the benefits that experts say it can bring?
Lose weight
One of the main benefits is the chance to shed some of the pounds potentially put on over the Christmas period.
Sleep better, snore less
Alcohol can make you feel sleepy and drop off quicker, but drinking regularly can upset your overall sleep pattern and leave you tired, research suggests.
More energy
If you abstain, you obviously won't get any hangovers. And you may find that you feel more energetic if you are also sleeping better.
Better skin
Alcohol can make you dehydrated and some say this takes its toll on the appearance of your skin.
Save money
An easily measurable benefit is a healthier bank balance. Cutting out alcohol could save you a significant amount of money if you normally spend quite a lot on drinks.
Sense of achievement
Keeping your willpower can give you a feeling of satisfaction that you have reached your goal.
Brewer's droop
Although alcohol can make people feel more amorous, it is linked to erectile dysfunction. For some men, abstaining from alcohol may help reverse their impotence.

Sense of achievement ....
Sheesh!
I’m already overweight, I don’t sleep well, but I do snore. I have no energy, bad skin, no money and no sense of anything; much less achievement.
And I don’t drink at all.
I think I see the problem. I need to START drinking.
I’m reading this while drinking a nice brown ale. :-)
No thanks. I enjoy happy hour far too much to do without for a whole month.
Too late.
I thought you were a wine chick?
Uhh, no. After many years of making stupid new years resolutions which I dont do anyway due to laziness. Actually, I promise to drink more and toast Donald J Trump to his success. :)
That’s Senator Blutarski to you sir...
I'll drink to that.
bump-O-rama
I am going to start tomorrow. It’s always a day away.
My 2018 resolution is to stop *mixing* alcohols. Gotta just stick to whiskey OR vodka for the day, not both.
“Better listen to him. He’s in Pre-Med.”
I can do this! Considering I don’t drink, it’s easy! I did have one Mike’s Hard Lemo on New Year’s Eve for total honesty. But none this year.
I was thinking this is exactly why I smoke weed
I’ll drink when I want, and not drink when I don’t want, and these abstemious bastards can kindly bugger off.
I’m booze free 12 months a year preferring good well water.
