When the committee leaves out the best conference Big10 and leaves out the only undefeated team in the nation so they can have two sec teams in it... What do you expect.
It’s just like how Hillary beat Bernie.
I’m happy to have SEC x2 since it means one D*bo Swinney won’t be doing the “aw shucks, it’s really just about me” routine for the next week, and can just fade away until next season.
I use the “*” in his name to stay legal, he has his name trademarked. Look it up.
FYI, Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, or even Vince Lombardi don’t have their names trademarked.
This is exactly why no team that couldn’t win its own conference should be in the playoff. There is simply no way in a four team playoff to balance strength of schedule over the regular season. This year, for example, the Big Ten was arguably the strongest conference. The bowl results certainly suggest that. Yes, Alabama and Georgia are both good teams, but they played through what was, this year, a lesser league, and their regular season records and lofty poll rankings reflect that. What is needed is an eight team playoff, with NO conference also-rans. Champions only.
GO Securities and Exchange Commission GO!!
That what those in the southeastern conference say!
The only alternative would be do what they do for March Madness, a bracket system.
Who cares about the ESPN Fake Championship.
Lot of whining going on in here...
The SEC is so terrible this year that they only have two teams in the National Championship Game.
My surprise was Clemson only being able to put up 6 points on Alabama’s badly depleted defense. Bama had a lot of injuries to their LBs this year. But, the DL played very well, especially the big #9 dude. Bama’s O played just well enough. GA and Bama should be decent.
OU should have won the game both in regulation and in OT. The coach became too conservative late in the game and tried not to lose rather than play to win. And the squib kick before halftime was a bonehead call.
I’m a Nole. I don’t get this whole rooting for the Conference thing. I don’t want Clemson to win, they are our rival. Clemson winning means better recruits and that means a better and tougher opponent. Hope the Dawgs take it all.
The NCAA is also a swamp that needs drained
ESPN got what they wanted...a game that few will watch or care about outside of GA & AL.
Thank You Lincoln Riley for the decision to pooch kick at the end of the first half!
This whole Conference rooting thing, is just a way for terrible teams in a good conference to make themselves feel better. It’s ludicrous.
For a fan of the game who just wants to watch football it’s OK, but to the rest of the country looking to identify with one team or the other it’s ho-hum and it’s a ratings disaster for the network. If they’re truly the two best teams then they’re the two best teams, but interest will not be all that high nationwide.
Alabama fans will certainly enjoy this week. But when season ticket renewal time comes around, they will need to wrap their minds around a 2018 home schedule that includes Arkansas State, Louisiana-Laugh-eye-ette, and the Citadel. Throw in the abysmal neutral-site game against Louisville and it is difficult to imagine a weaker schedule. All they need to do is lose to Auburn again (so they won’t lose to Georgia in the SEC Championship game) and their ticket will be punched for another run next year.
If first year coach Riley didn’t have a brain fart and gift 3 points to GA at the end of the first half there wouldn’t have been an overtime...it took Oklahoma 4 quarters to put up 31 points on Ohio State, but only 1/2 of football against GA’s defense.
There are some seriously butthurt Freepers over this
It really brings out the anti south bigots here
The irony of that. Considering these are pretty much black teams
1. 11-game schedule, with eight in-conference and three out-of-conference games. And no more Division 1 FBS teams can play Division 1 FCS teams.
2. No poll rankings until after 4th week of the season.
3. New ranking system based on an updated version of the old BCS ranking (computer polls plus AP human poll). This starts after the 7th week of the season.
4. Two highest-ranked teams in the Big 5 conferences play in a 12th game for the conference championship. There will be no more splitting conferences into divisions.
5. After the conference championships, new ranking system determines #1 to #8 team, with the top four teams hosting games at their home stadiums in early December (#1 vs #8, #2 vs #7, #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5).
6. Winners of the first four games are re-ranked. With new rankings, #1 plays #4 and #2 plays #3 on New Year's Day bowl games (games will start at 3 pm and 7 pm Eastern time on New Year's Day).
7. Last two teams play for championship seven to eight days later.
