The chant boomed out early in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, and then again late, and a third time even later for good measure. And although its enough to trigger a collective gag reflex in 39 states plus several U.S. territories, its a fact-based champions chant. S-E-C! S-E-C! the Alabama fans thundered, when the final score of the Rose Bowl was announced and league brethren Georgia had advanced to the College Football Playoff title game.

I was watching a game on ESPN yesterday afternoon and the commentators were opining about one team having two black assistant coaches and how social progress was being made.
Very off putting. Blech!
Both games yesterday were great games. I don’t care how they elect the best teams to play.
OU should have won the game both in regulation and in OT. The coach became too conservative late in the game and tried not to lose rather than play to win. And the squib kick before halftime was a bonehead call.
Tigers offense has been hit or miss all year. The offense was so pathetic the D was on the field all night.
You nailed it, the problem is the NCAA.
I’m a Nole. I don’t get this whole rooting for the Conference thing. I don’t want Clemson to win, they are our rival. Clemson winning means better recruits and that means a better and tougher opponent. Hope the Dawgs take it all.
Lol, the committee wisely took a look at how the last two Big 10+4 teams performed in the first round of the four team playoffs:
Alabama 38 Michigan State 0
Clemson 31 Ohio State 0
Those results do not support any claim of being the best conference. Past performance is and should be taken into account. That's where the thing called tradition comes from.
I've never heard "Northwestern" and "perennially competitive" in the same sentence before. Thanks! It's fun being a former doormat. :-)
Iowa State didn’t play Ohio (State) although they did beat Oklahoma, at Norman, who beat Ohio State, in Columbus. It was Iowa that stomped Ohio State by 30 to embarrass them out of the playoffs.
The current TV contract with the NCAA to be the sole broadcast provider for the college football playoffs runs thru the 2025 season. We'll see if they'll pony up another $10.5 billion for another 10 year run as the exclusive provider or let it go to the highest bidder.
It's mostly a Big 10 / SEC family feud, so it makes sense that an ACC fan might not "get it". When it's time for the annual Big Rumble, the families tend to stick together. If the Big Rumble ends often enough with your family getting the cr*p beaten out of them by those other guys, you stick together even tighter.
Then quarantine the SEC into its own bowls and play the championship with everyone else.
I “get it”..Florida State/Miami. I’m never rooting for the Canes.
The NCAA is also a swamp that needs drained
ESPN got what they wanted...a game that few will watch or care about outside of GA & AL.
The rabbit hole has been opened and the ratings will be DOWN for the championship game.
The reaction was 100% predictable when everyone and their mothers were bitching about how unfair the last system was and how the playoff system was the only solution to all the unfairness of it all..
“E$PN is paying the $EC $2.25 Billion over 10-years for their broadcasting rights.” was the previous quote, which you read as:
“One posters remark about ESPN getting $2.3 billion from the SEC is spot on. The conflict of interest is stunning.”
Your reading is 180 degrees out.
Thank You Lincoln Riley for the decision to pooch kick at the end of the first half!
This whole Conference rooting thing, is just a way for terrible teams in a good conference to make themselves feel better. It’s ludicrous.
