The NFL is approaching the playoffs looking for a ratings turnaround after a year of record-low television numbers. Outcry over players protesting by taking a knee during the national anthem isnt helping, but its only one of several reasons fans are turning away from professional football, media analysts say.

Post of the month
And Bikini Curling
The pretty much stopped after October, except in Seattle and San Francisco. They stopped in those cities around November, once the players realized that the anthem was not being broadcast anymore...
Here’s my take: I’m an Oakland Raiders fan....had season tickets forever. I even had season tickets when Jamarcuss Russel was our QB....that’s how big an NFL fan I am. Anyway, I don’t really care about the win-loss record as long as I truly believe in my heart that the team wants to win as bad as I do.
No....I dropped my season tickets mostly because the team announced its moving to Las Vegas....
....but also because the league embraced left-wing politics. I have a cousin who is a police officer (and a very nice person) and my family has a long tradition of being in the Navy. There is no statistical evidence that supports the premise of the protest. Cherry picking an incident here or there is simply nothing to justify insulting our entire police force over.....
...and finally ESPN has really embraced left wing politics in their presentation. The hipster presentation gets a little old after a while. It seems like its more important to be cool than informative and professional nowadays on those shows.
In short, the fun has just been sucked out of it for me. Maybe I’m old. Now I read there’s an ownership team that wants to buy the Panthers in part to make a political statement about Kapernick. Really???
To really drill down to the big picture....The political left (which now includes the NFL...unfortunately) is really just in shock with Trumps election. They fail to realize that his ascent does not symbolize white nationalism taking over. No...it represents the end of victim-hood being an effective political weapon. To me, the more people try to play the victim, the less I am interested in supporting them. The players have decided to play the victim card and that’s why I am no longer supporting them.
Fire the SOBs and get the ghetto gangsta crap out, that’s the only thing that would get me to try watching again but, that ain’t happening so...
They could change the name to the Hate Whitey League?
Simple ... issue a ruling reducing the number of penalties by one-half and discontinue “pink prancer” month
NFL are thugs, traitors and cowards.
The single worst thing the players did this year was to stand for the British national anthem while taking a knee for ours on foreign soil. Happened twice that I know of, and it something I will never forgive.
It’s become unwatchable, even without considering the kneelers and armlocking.
Endless replays, terrible play calling, penalties and feral celebrations over every little thing.
And also I’ve never seen so many receivers gesturing to the refs for interference calls when they didn’t get one. Just do your own dam_ job and let the refs do theirs.
“Topless cheerleaders?”
Maybe from professional teams.
My great-grandchildren will ask questions like "Who were those scary looking people and why did they make so much money?"
“Come around June, season ticket holders will have to pay for next years seats in full. This years tickets were already sold. I bet the number of non-repeats will astound the NFL. They could have stemmed this earlier by listening to Jerry Jones. Instead they doubled down on stupid virtue signalling and re-hired Goodell. They will pay a bigger price in 2018.”
Season ticket sales are never down. There are so many people on waiting lists that they would jump in and buy those seats just to see if the league turns around in a few years.
This is great news! The BLM/NFL Slum Dog Miionaires are still rolling down hill when dopes like this “Sports Professor” are feeding them crap like he is.
You’ve nailed it there.
It’s not that improper incidents involving police don’t happen, it’s that BLM preaches that EVERY time a cop and a black man cross paths the cop is WRONG.
There is nothing sexier than a woman sweeping her heart out.
Except a woman sweeping her heart out in a bikini.
[ducking and running for cover]
Here's where next year's game plan is starting to unravel: unless Jason Garrett is fired, at least a quarter of the fans will tune out Jerruh and the Cowboys. 22 years of mediocrity has started to immunize the average Cowboys fan from Jerruh's bovine scatology.
Lol. Reminds me of the scene in the Meaning of Life with the rugby teams. One team, young boys, the other adult men. The outcome was predictable. The boys team was smashed.
If the plan includes re-hiring Goodell for $40 million/year, its a stupid plan.
The protests are only the trigger for something that was likely to happen anyway. The NFL just isn’t a very good entertainment product any more. The games are too long, have too many commercial breaks, and are generally boring. A number of my friends who watched football for decades also say fantasy football ruined the fan experience. They found that the psychological tension of rooting against their favorite team because the opponent had one of their fantasy players sucked the fun out of it. The the next year, the players you followed are on somebody else’s fantasy team, and fans lost the continuing connection essential to a pro sports league.
These comments were all out there even before Krapernick took a knee.
So I think the NFL has been in something of a popularity bubble. It only took a triggering event to pop the bubble, and Krapernick provided it. However, had he not done so, something else would have come along to do it anyway.
