Doctor Who fans have shared their delight after the Time Lord regenerated into a woman for the first time ever - with actress Jodie Whittaker keeping her Yorkshire accent for the role. Tonight's Christmas special Twice Upon A Time marked the exit of both leading star Peter Capaldi and showrunner Steven Moffat. But the hour-long episode also heralded a new beginning for the long-running BBC sci-fi series as it welcomed the first female Doctor ever.

“Big scifi fan. Never liked Dr. Who. Perhaps a woman will make it better. The series despite having poor effects could be good if the stories weren’t so British-centric. It does not play for me as an American.”

Same here, but the woman won’t make a difference to me.

Gave the original a shot, even took a road trip with friends to a lackluster “festival” 35 years ago, and feel the same way about both.

For some reason the only Doctor who appealed to me was Tom Baker. I have a 12 foot licensed 'Doctor Who' scarf that everyone loves when I wear it.

Just couldn't get into the rest of it. Love 'The Prisoner', 'Monty Python' of course. One of my favourites of all time is 'The Young Ones'.

It’s getting so that the only strong male roles in books and films are of Evil Bad Guys. Do you wonder whom the current generation of boys will accept as role models?

It is only a matter of time before 007 becomes a woman.

They misspelled “disgusted” as “delighted”. Way past time to re-cancel.

I lost interest after the 10th Doctor. I also really liked Eccleston. Too bad he was only on for such a short time.

Doctor Who ended for me when Matt Smith ended his time.

The feminine overthrow of the show:
The Master turned Missy
Then a lesbian companion (I quit at that point because it seemed she had to bring it up so often that she was a lesbian.)
Now a female Dr. Who...how can that work...I can’t imagine. Will the companion be a male or female...should be an interesting dilemma.

Change is always vital for Doctor Who. It is the most extraordinarily durable and successful show for exactly that reason. If you dislike a Doctor or showrunner you know that if you hang in long enough, everything will change.

I do think that the digs at the First Doctor’s ‘1960s views’ were greatly overdone. I’ve seen all the surviving Hartnell episodes and his character was simply not like that. It was a cheap shot, and the same, tired joke was repeated several times throughout the episode. Lazy. But the writers and show-runner are now leaving. Moffat probably should have turned it in a couple of years ago, in truth.

Will give Jodie Whittaker every chance next year, and hope she is a big success.

My favourite has always been the 2nd Doctor, Patrick Troughton. Without him there would not have been a show today.

Smith and Gillan were the best. I watch those episodes around this time of year. And Prof. Song! Great writing, how they tied all those threads together. I have a TARDIS ornament on my Christmas tree.

Glad that Moffat is leaving. The whole series has grown stale, self referential, and PC.

She’s not only female, she’s also a blonde. Parallel parking the Tardis is right out!

I have generally enjoyed watching the Dr Who series since the advent of Eccleston (I’ve seen some of the earlier episodes, but not enough to get into the various Doctors). But it seems to me that BBC is on a roll, killing off successful programs. They fire the star of Top Gear which leads to the exit of all of the presenters. They fail to renew the contract of 3 of 4 of the presenters on the Great British Baking Show, and now they feel the need to make the Doctor female. Dr Who may survive this, but I doubt the other shows will.

Like the two of you, big scifi fan, not much of a DR. Who fan. Have you tried the British series “Black Mirror”? I think it's pretty good.

What an entrance!': Doctor Who fans share their delight as Time Lord regenerates into a woman

Because everything has to be ruined by putting homosexual/Trans-gender mental illness ideas into it.

F*** the BBC and F*** the lunatic British.

Why can’t feminists create and develop their own characters; why must they steal male role models? Why must progressives poison everything they touch? I’m now boycotting Dr, Who...

Because female leads do not resonate with young men, which is the primary audience for Adventure/Sci-Fi shows.

They are still fighting human nature, trying to make people into things that they are not. The communists were always trying to create the "new man", and their underlying premise is flawed.

Humans are not malleable.

This PC/SJW crap is ruining once decent tv. Sad. I saw it when “she” hit a button but then I thought the Tardis got pissed off and decided to dump this alien newcomer right out the door by going sideways.

Tardis: This just won’t do. I’m a female entity and we can’t have two bossy bitches in the same blue box. :)

Me: How’s that for being PC? Heheheheh...

The best scenario would have been a spin off. Something like ‘Miss Dr. Who’ then they can cross paths and share story lines from time to time.
