Sounds like the good professor has a guilty conscience.
I can’t tell you how many professors I’ve seen that are grammatical idiots that have their grad students doing their research and writing up their research papers for them. It’s a situation of “Do my work or you don’t graduate.” A lot of were on top of their game 30 years ago but are now so old and senile that it’s amazing they can find their way to work in the morning.

No, I disagree that he is a twit for applying the societal rules as currently defined and concluding they would be classified as sex assault perpetrators.
Under societal rules as currently defined (no matter how outrageous they are), he is arguably correct in his conclusion.
The problem is that societal rules are currently defined in a manner that is stupidly outrageous.

One more note - He is a sociology professor, whose job is to teach how to interpret societal rules and apply them. I think he has done this - perhaps over zealously - but in a manner that is probably justified due to the outrageous “rules” currently embraced by society.

We would not be so drenched in sexual talk day after day if not for Slick Willlie and Crooked Hillary and their desperation to obfuscate their actions, to put it mildly, and to redefine sex. The mavens of the new abnormal often don’t know which rest room to use.
It is perfectly legitimate to just not change with the times (by accepting or tolerating their new abinorms). It is also legitimate to push back against them.
And will women now be deprived of being told she’s beautiful? Trust me, that’s not an insult. Will we be made to feel ashamed for dressing as a real woman? Can we not enjoy the game of innocent flirtation as old as man?
Trust me, I well understand sexual harassment. I’ve even been reminded of things long forgotten, crass and inappropriate behavior but it never happened again and I carried myself so that it was obvious to a gentleman never to behave that way to me. Can’t we be beautiful women anymore? And respected for our intelligence too. The feminists took chivalry away from us. I can let a man open a door for me and still be strong and smart.
What a world we have allowed to become all around us. Sad!
Sociologists study the tall grass to make just these kinds of distinctions, IMO.
I don’t agree that the conclusion SHOULD be correct, but I can see a valid basis for drawing it, given a sociologist’s job is to apply the rules as constituted - not as they should be.
It is very legitimate to push back - and this sociologist MAY actually be doing so by pointing out how ridiculous the new rules are.
All this controversy about sexual activity ignores the basic fact that we are animals.
I’m not sure those gay looking princes knew how to get to second base.
