My cell phone is a tool I use for specific purposes (primarily speaking to other people).

I check my email from time to time but defer responses until I am at a PC.

I do not IM and do not use social media. My phone is put away at night and put on “Do Not Disturb” (silent) mode from about 8 PM to when I am scheduled to awaken.

Perhaps people should think about using their devices as mere tools.

My cell phone is my handiest tool. I use it for many tasks, above and beyond mere phone calls.

I don’t have a PC, so my phone serves as a browser, spreadsheet, calendar, address book, etc. I use it for maps/GPS. I monitor my husband’s CPAP, usage, as well as my own. I use it in place of credit cards and loyalty cards at the cash register. It’s my camera and photo album. It stores and plays my music collection. It’s my night light. I use it to control the smart devices in my home, such as lighting, security cameras, multi-cooker, etc. I have apps to help manage our health related issues, which are many. It helps me identify medications, manage many appointments with various doctors, keep track of our vital signs, etc. There’s very little I can’t do on my cell phone. I should get a shirt that says “There’s an app for that.” I’m looking for an app that will wash the dishes.
