Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson will be selling the team after allegations of workplace misconduct forced the team to start an internal investigation on Friday.
Richardson announced his intention to sell the team in a letter on Sunday night after the Panthers win over the Green Bay Packers:
Specific allegations against Richardson surfaced in a report from Sports Illustrated on Sunday afternoon just as early NFL games were kicking off.
Among the allegations in the report are sexually inappropriate comments directed at female employees:
Among those in heaviest rotation: Show me how you wiggle to get those jeans up. I bet you had to lay down on your bed to fit into those jeans. Did you step into those jeans or did you have to jump into them? There was also allegedly a racial slur directed at a former team scout:
Perceptions of casual racism hardened recently when, multiple sources told SI, Richardson directed a racial slur at an African-American scout for the Panthers. The scout left the team this yearbut not, according to sources, before he sought the counsel of a Charlotte attorney who negotiated a confidential settlement on his behalf. Contacted by SI and asked if he wished to comment, the scout responded, Im not in a position to talk. Players were not previously made aware that Richardson would be selling the team:
The news of the investigation was first broken by ESPNs Jim Trotter, who had a statement from coach Ron Rivera.
I have had a strong relationship with Mr. Richardson during my time with the Panthers, Rivera told ESPN. I have enormous respect for the man, but will wait for the results of the investigation before making any judgment.

What a load of bandwagon BS
I see that happening too. Not that I want it to. Generally speaking, I like the women in my workplace and personally I have not had a problem with them. But the current climate in which a woman can destroy any man's career simply by lodging an unsubstantiated complaint - even from 40 years in the past - does not bode well for women in the future workplace. This makes every woman in the workplace a potential "ticking time bomb."
I'm not sure this is going to help women in the long run.

Last I heard all they could attract was the Davidians and some Motorcycle groups
Yeah it’s gotten completely out of hand.
I’m a guy - but the “show me how you wiggle” is probably over the line. The other ones - to me - are just questions that comment on the gal’s tight jeans - which I imagine was her intention anyway - to be able to wear the tightest jeans possible. (Okay - I’m assuming that the woman is relatively fit, and not 100 pounds overweight - then those comments would also be extremely rude).
Although I guess I wouldn’t say them to a gal. Not that I haven’t said the wrong things to females once-in-awhile. But it is usually saying stuff like “Oh - it’s your birthday! How old?”
Most of those comments are pretty tame really. Jerry is an old school NFL veteran and statements like that were generally quite common ‘flirt’ talk in the old workplace.
And every smart season-ticket/psl holder can see the same thing for themselves. It used to be that these people could actually make money by reselling/scalping some of their tickets.
Those days are done.
One possibly solution would be “Don’t hire females for your staff.” Er, let me rephrase that “Don’t hire females for your business”.
We are watching a slow motion implosion of the NFL. It will probably take 15 to 20 years, but the NFL is dead.
Jerry is VERY WISE to leave it now.
The question is how many NFL teams will sell their franchise over the next 5 to 10 years? I bet at least 50% of them.
Jerry if very wise to get out while the money is still good.
Attention all you hedge fund owners! Time to get in on the NFL action. Raise ticket prices 5000%! Great times, liquor and pretty girls, all in private suites! Just like wall street.
This is what passes as harassment.....give me a break!!!
