Am I really supposed to believe this will stop at 8 teams?

We Clemson fans don’t have a problem with it.

I propose 5+1.

5 Conference Champions.

Play In between the best Power 5 at-large vs the best non-Power 5 team.

Top two seeds get a bye.

So you’d have: Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC, and the winner of Alabama-UCF.

I like the idea of a bye so it provides incentive for teams to win even if winning their conference is a foregone conclusion.

Why is there a college football champion?

Drop that. “Problem” solved.

Sorry Tide , fans, but if you can't win your conference you do not belong in the playoffs. And Yes, they are a damn good team, but conference losses need to mean more than they do now.

I would prefer to see a system where we have 16 conferences each with 12-14 teams in two divisions per conference. The 16 champs then fight it out. Four extra games (at most) for only two teams.

Teams play to many games now? Cut out one preseason game, or shorten the conference season by one game.

There is no need for expansion.
Ohio State had two losses, Alabama one.

Ohio State is out.
Simple, just and the reality.

SEC Rules!!

That UCF team is better than #8. I bet under the old BCS system they’d be ranked several spots higher.

Minimum playoff will be 16 teams. I think this is the last year for this political ruination of the college championship. We dont need men to tell us who they THINK is champion and pee on the rest of the teams. We can tell who the best team is by the score of the final game. Can you imagine the excitement as the playoffs move through these dead television week ends.? We need to demand an end to the oligarchy. It will make alot more money for the schools.

The last three spots would be by at large conference champions. No Championship no entry.

The SEC is the best conference in football. They would deserve at least four spots if the CFP expanded.

Why not make the season the playoff, when a team loses they are out until next year, There would be 128 D1 schools. After the First week there would be 64. after the second week there would be 32. After the third week there would be 16. After the Fourth week there would be 8. After the Fifth week there would be 4. After the Sixth week there would be 2. and on the Seventh week they would have a champion. The winning team would get a full ride in school, room board food scholarship. The runner up would also, minus the championship. the 4 would get one/half cost/scholarship. the 8 would get one/third cost/scholarship. The 16 would get one/forth cost/scholarship. The 32 would get one/fifth cost/scholarship. The 64 would get One/Sixth of their cost/scholarship. All schools could offer One/Seventh cost/scholarship to start.

The NCAA used to have a requirement that you had to win your conference title to be in the tourney (until 1975). We've seen expansion from 8 to 16 to 40, and now 68 teams. There are some calling for further expansion.

Why? $$$$

That's the only reason for an eight team playoff. $$$$

You want an eight team playoff? Merge the Power Five into a Power Four. Four conferences each with two divisions. Total eight divisions. Division winners play in conference championships. Only winners advance.

Too bad Alabama.
Too bad Notre Dame.

Here is how I would set up the new college season:

1. Scale back the college football regular season from 12 to 11 games, with a uniform eight in-conference and three out-of-conference games (no more playing FCS schools).
2. No polling until after the fourth week of the season completes.
3. New ranking system is identical to BCS, but uses the AP human poll instead of the old Harris human poll. Will start after the sixth week of the season.
4. Eliminate conference divisions. The top two teams in each conference based on the new poll go to the conference championship--the 12th game of the season.
5. The new poll seeds teams 1 through 8. Top four teams will host quaterfinal playoff game in early December.
6. Winners will be re-seeded and go to two New Year's Day bowl games designated as semifinal games, with games on ABC instead of ESPN.
7. Semifinal winners play championship game eight days later, with the game on ABC instead of ESPN. It will play the night after Dancing with the Star premieres on ABC for the spring season.
