That is an absolutely terrible idea. Do you know how many companies do that? And how crappily third-party software runs on devices? Especially very technically specific devices? Citrix software running many large companies' Citrix servers. Toyota software running Toyota vehicles. Ford vehicles. Your phone (unless it's a non-Google device running Android). Your router. Your thermostat (unless it's an old mechanical one). Your kid's Speak-N-Spell. Your fitbit. Your Nintendo 64. Your Keurig (if you're an idiot who can't make your own coffee). Your backup battery charger. Your grocery store's pos system. Streetlights.
Almost anything electronic (definitely if it has a digital display) will be vertically integrated. Hardware/software combos are everywhere.
