Smoked pot? Want to go to war?
No problem.
As more states lessen or eliminate marijuana penalties, the Army is granting hundreds of waivers to enlist people who used the drug in their youth as long as they realize they cant do so again in the military.
The number of waivers granted by the active-duty Army for marijuana use jumped to more than 500 this year from 191 in 2016. Three years ago, no such waivers were granted. The big increase is just one way officials are dealing with orders to expand the Armys size.
Provided they understand that they cannot do that when they serve in the military, I will waive that all day long, said Maj. Gen. Jeff Snow, head of the Armys recruiting command.
The marijuana use exclusions represent about one-quarter of the total misconduct waivers the Army granted in the budget year that ended Sept. 30. They accounted for much of the 50 percent increase overall in recruits who needed a waiver for some type of misconduct.
Snow said the figures probably will rise further as more states legalize or decriminalize marijuana.

everybody lied before
What’s use? A blood test should be sufficient to weed out the habitual users.
Somewhere in the background I can see Soros & Obama laughing at how they have set the foundation to weaken America.
If alcohol doesnt weaken soldiers, pot isnt going to. Sheesh.
AG Sessions will wake from his slumber now!
In WWII, both Bushido Japan and Nazi Germany have stated they would knowin advanceof American Army presence by the scent of cigarette smoke.
FYI, FWIW...
Back in the eighties this would be waivered out. Not a big deal.
the weirdos are those who haven’t not those who have
You got it.
Who are these ‘officials’ granting these waivers? Got to be Obama dead-enders or America-hating Swamp Creatures. So sad tgat the military has now been subverted.
Everybody?
Who smokes weed? Young people. Who joins military? Young people. Weed has been an issue for decades.
I know some folks in law enforcement. They all experimented with weed during their high school and college days. The real question was “when was the last time you smoked weed? If they were truthful (based on the lie detector test they performed as part of the pre-screening process) then it wasn’t an issue. If the person had done it recently.. then it was an issue. Granted.. I realize LENF and the military aren’t the same but if they want recruits.. some issues have to be “forgiven”.
I have to ask my clients in custody cases if they smoke weed. And then I have to tell them it’s illegal and the court still cares and if someone wants a hair or a nail test it needs to come out clean.
She was probably high on something when she wrote it.........
“Somewhere in the background I can see Soros & Obama laughing at how they have set the foundation to weaken America.”
Cannabis was used as medicine in America up to the 1930’s & in China for thousands of years. I guess Soros & Obama were “weakening” America then, right?
People got waivers for prior cannabis use when Reagan was president. It probably didn’t happen as often as now but it did happen. Saw it with my own 2 eyes.
It’s not a new thing.
Yep - my recruiter told me to lie (I had only smoked a couple times but in the early ‘70s, they were having trouble making quotas even as they prepared for drawdowns). Turns out I met more active pot heads after I was in uniform than when I was a civilian....got a better handle on it over the years though.
