(AhlulBayt News Agency) - US Former Secretary of State John Kerry said Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt pushed the United States to bomb Iran before the 2015 nuclear deal was struck. Kerry defended the deal during the Ignatius Forum in Washington, saying Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was genuinely agitating towards action, before he struck the accord with Tehran.
Kerry said when he was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he met with Saudi King Abdullah, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Netanyahu, who all lobbied for military action.
"Each of them said to me, you have to bomb Iran, it's the only thing they are going to understand," he said.
But Kerry said that was a trap since the Arab countries would have publicly criticized the US if it bombed Iran.
It was not clear when the conversations took place. Kerry chaired the Senate panel from 2009 to early 2013. Mubarak was deposed in February 2011.
Kerry, one of the main architects of the deal, said he doesn't know whether Iran will resume pursuing a nuclear weapon in 10 to 15 years after restrictions in the deal sunset. But he said it was the best deal the US could get and made the Middle East safer as well as heading off a nuclear arms race in the region.
"Without exaggeration, the likelihood is very high that we would have been in a conflict," without deal, he said.
He criticized US President Donald Trump for telling Congress to try to fix the agreement, and said he had polluted the water of legitimate diplomacy by vocally criticizing the deal while campaigning.
"That was a blatant over-simplistic political appeal to the American Jewish community ... because most of those people hadn't read the agreement," he said.
He added that UN restrictions on missile development were snuck in by US ambassador Samantha Power and were only included because nobody noticed.
resume? what a pathetic human being
When will this worthless pos and liar just leave us alone?
And why did you Sell Out USA then, Kerry!????? You ,America had allies ready to help us remove the threat - and Instead You opted to enable the enemy to acquire nuclear bombs and ICBMs to deliver the nukes on American cities Kerry is a traitor - big time
FUJK traitor.
As opposed to a blatant over-simplistic political appeal to the Muslim community.
WTH is he even talking about this?
But Kerry, who supported the Mosque that led
to the Boston Atrocity, and ignored the warning
that led to the 911 Atrocities, knew HIS directive:
PROTECT IRAN and his daughter’s in laws.
He has been since Vietnam.
What a coincidence. I’ve been for bombing Iran since 1979.
The best thing Obamby did was to bring together Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. They have forged an alliance that is likely to not only recolor the Middle East but may eventually end Iran’s toxic government and their nuclear ambitions. It is also likely to restructure all of Islam into a religion that can be truly peaceful. Saudi Arabia realizes that if they don’t change the religion Islam will tear itself apart and also be attacked by all sides.
Israel has been sharing intelligence with Egypt and supplying drone information on terrorists located in the Saini. (Probably, in other areas as well.) The recent Saudi move to create a free trade city including Egypt, Jordan and, most likely, Israel will herald a massive change in Saudi culture. The first indication of where the change is headed is the recent change allowing women to drive. The second massive change, doubtless engineered by Trump, is the purge of Saudi terrorist financiers under the guise of anti-corruption. Some of these financiers were highly placed family members, so this action is much more meaningful than it appears on the surface. Other changes I expect is for Israel to supply the free trade city with water and the Saudis with pipeline access to the Mediterranean.
None of these changes will happen overnight, but they are in the cards, and they are driven by the need for Saudi Arabia to have allies against their arch enemies, the Iranians. Making all this work is the only way that the Saud family can survive. They must liberalize their society to attract investment and to gain acceptance in the wider world. The free trade city is like Amsterdam during the Catholic wars in the middle ages; a place where dissidents can go and not be persecuted.
None of this would have happened without President Barky and his absurd pro-Iranian bias. It was also necessary for a strong leader, like Trump, to stop “leading from behind,” as Barky did, but to dictate terms; which he obviously has.
These changes, collectively, lead me to be optimistic that, although there will still be plenty of Jihad ahead, that we will win across the entire world.

That kind of naive and weak mindset is what results in bad deals. Libs are so anxious for a deal they will agree to anything.
“WTH is he even talking about this?”
I guessing given the choice between admitting your entire life is a total and complete failure or pretending you really are a good guy because truly evil people you service regularly tell you you are, the weak minded beta Kerry choses to lie to himself and anyone with a microphone.
Yes youre right! I forgot about Kerry and Vietnam Nam. Sorry
That’s classified, dip$hit John!
Well reasoned post. Thanks.

Most significant Saudi change in my life. Very encouraging.
Tax evader Kerry mummy speaks. Say, where does he have his gold-digger wife institutionalized? Thanks Eddie01.
To the music of the Beach Boys “Barbara Ann”:
Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran,
Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran...
Why is everybody so eager to have us play “Let’s you and him fight?”
Not that Kerry is a reliable source for me of anything.
John Kerry spent Christmas in Cambodia, December 1968, and he was sent there by Richard Nixon.
Jean-Francois Kerre` has trouble keeping his timelines straight. Also, some of the more salient facts of his meetings and the outcome of these meetings.
No doubt he was close childhood companions with the Kennedy family as well.
