Jim Nabors, the singer and actor who became a TV icon in the 1960s playing the lovably naïve Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show and the spinoff series Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., has died. He was 87.
Nabors, who underwent a liver transplant after contracting hepatitis B in 1994, died Thursday at his home in Hawaii, his website announced.
Everybody knows he was a wonderful man. And thats all we can say about him, said Stan Cadwallader, who had been Nabors partner for 38 years before the couple married in 2013. Hes going to be dearly missed.
A tall and lanky Alabama native, Nabors was singing at a small nightclub in Santa Monica called the Horn in 1962 when Griffith caught his act, in which hed sing in a booming baritone and then talk in a higher-pitched Southern hayseed accent.

Rip Gomer.
Man, I thought he had died long ago.
I did not know he was still alive. Wow, his partnership was really long, longer than a lot of straight marriages! Ill give him that. RIP.
Goober, George Lindsey, is still alive...........................
RIP
Thanks for supporting the troops in Vietnam.
Excuse me, NOT still alive, that may be who you were thinking of...........
Well Shazzam! Another of those shows I grew up on. :(
Used to LOL when he’d give Sgt Carter one of those grandma-like lectures...shame shame shame! oh what a crooked web we weave...
I hope he knew Jesus. He was a homosexual but if he received Jesus, he’s in heaven.
RIP Mr Nabors aka Gomer - Thank you so much for bringing laughter to me thru Gomer Pyle during my difficult childhood.
Mr Nabors was a very kind person with an incredible voice. I have not read or heard any costars or producers speaking ill well of him. Nor have I heard him speaking rudely about anyone.
Hard to believe my childhood icons are slipping away. David Cassidy & now Jim Nabors. Who is next?
Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!
Say hey to Aunt Bea.
May the angels sing him home
Miss that beautiful voice
Golly!
I rather remember him as the funny and lovable Gomer Pyle in the days before TV became trash. RIP Gomer. You and Sgt Carter can entertain together again now. (But he was not married to a man, the government might say its ok but God and nature disagree.)
Goober died in 2012!
They can’t write TV series like they used to!
BTT!
Thirty fans were turnin’.
That leaves Ron Howard and Betty Lynn left from the main cast.
“Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!”
2 0f my favorite shows...
