Among the Australians upgrading their shower, 68 per cent increased its size, with 64 per cent switching over to rainfall showerheads or 62 per cent handheld showerheads.

Around 22 per cent of homeowners included a bathtub large enough to fit a couple while 12 per cent upgraded their showers to accommodate two people.

The study found white was the preferred colour for walls, cabinets and bench tops - and often accented by grey flooring.

Up to 12 per cent of homeowners are getting high-tech upgrade to their bathrooms, including digital controls and built-in sound for showers and self-cleaning and overflow protection for toilets.

My silver is all packed away. Polishing is tiresome. When we finally retire and settle down in a permanent place, I’ll pull it out.

Polishing the silver was always one of my Grandmother’s ‘get ready for Christmas’ chores; so I have some fond memories of it.

That’s a pretty kitchen.

I replaced a big Jacuzzi tub with a smaller freestanding tub last year. My hot water heater (50 gallons) wasn’t big enough to fill the Jacuzzi, and as a result I never used it.

Most people I know had similar experiences with jacuzzi type tubs. They spent a lot of money for them then used them so few times that the cost per use was anywhere from double to quadruple digits.

I'm exactly opposite. I hated polishing silver and whatever of my parent's silver I ultimately inherit I will immediately sell.

I always worried about mold getting inside the works of those things...in addition to cost, more cleaning to do.

It’s definitely work. I love the beautiful “white” sheen of sterling, and watching it come back. Just don’t have the time right now.

We are finishing up something like that. We don’t need shower doors which is nice. We took out a 1980 porceline cast tub to make room for the shower. It was in perfect condition so I put an ad on Craigs list for a free tub to anyone who wants it and had it set by the curb. I wasn’t home when it was picked up, but some Mexican workers told me what happened. A guy came to my house alone in a very old Toyota Corolla. He got one end of it slung across the trunk and asked for help from the my workers with the other end. He tied it down with one strap and drove off. They could hear the rear tires scrubbing when he drove off. The tub had to weigh between 500 - 600 lbs. I asked them if they happened to get a picture and you should have seen the look on their faces. They were so astonished they had forgotten to get a photo.

I’d also hate to lean over to clean the large tubs. And how do you clean behind and under the freestanding ones?

Radiator brush.

Clothes dryer lint brush.

Long-handle flat cleaning mop.

The new pad has a shower big enough for a few people.

That is as far as I care to go.

I’ve always thought that bigger houses are much easier to keep clean and neat - but I wouldn’t want to deal with Five Bathrooms ;-)

From my book on Henry Livingston:

Cleaning was the passion and the pleasure of a Dutch wife. When Mevrouw De Lange died, the inventory of her home and shop included: one rake brush, two hearth brooms, one cloth brush, two Bermudian brooms with sticks, one hay broom without a stick, five whiting brushes, a “brush to clean ye floor,” five rubbers, two small painted brushes, two hair brushes, two dust brushes, a chamber broom, two dust brushes called hoggs, and some miscellaneous brushes. One is left to infer that Mevrouw probably died of overwork.

It’s absolutely spectacular. What a place for peace and happiness. I lived for a year in Palos Verdes on a cliff and I still cherish that memory.

Dreaming is absolutely essential. Sometimes it leads to reality. Sometimes it just makes us gloriously happy. Both are wonderful. Love sharing your dream.

Google: bathrooms
Then click on images. Many nice bathrooms.
I want a large mirror over the sink and more counter space.

"She told me that the master bathroom had a toilet IN the shower!"

At least it wasn't in the tub...

I had a shelf full of bathroom and kitchen books that I’ve been trying to pass on to my nieces and nephew, but they’re still a little young to be settling down. Pictures are a great way to pass an evening.
