While there are some Star Trek fans who would love to see William Shatner strut onto the U.S.S. Discovery, Jason [Isaacs] is not one of them. The actor, who plays Captain Lorca on Star Trek: Discovery, flat out said he doesn't want appearances from the original cast on the series, and that he's not a fan of "stunt celebrity casting." [Isaacs] explained his reasoning and expressed that he felt doing something like that might hurt the fans' suspension of disbelief:
"Someone asked which cast members from the existing series would you like to guest star -- I think people watch good drama shows and they completely suspend their disbelief, they feel like they're looking through the keyhole at another world, if you do it well enough. 'If you have stunt celebrity cameo casting, it completely pulls them out of it. They feel like they're watching a Saturday Night Live sketch."

“I actually watched past episode one, and found it to really be no more PC than all of the other ST series.”

All I can say is you must have a high PC-tolerance level! Even if a person can handle it they still have to endure it being a gawd-awful show, with or without it being a nominal ST series (what I was refering to as being the “crapfest” part of my indepth review, heh.).
But to each his own on TV & movie tastes; I have some pretty odd birds in my own watching druthers.
Bingo!
Alara: Multiple hull fractures, nine overloaded power conduits, and Ensign Davis spilled soy sauce on his pants.
Mercer: He put that in a damage report?
Alara: [embarrassed] Yes.
Mercer: My God, we gotta get better people.
I love that show !
>>Theyd also upstage his and the casts shoddy acting.
Direct hit.
Does anyone actually watch this PC crapfest anyway?
It is part of the Star Trek Canon!
If he doesn’t like the Milieu, he should not have taken the job.
Yes, skip the ‘star trek’ parody and watch The Orville.
It’s really original, fun, funny and entertaining.
Me, too. It has a lot of little funnies along the way and the cast is likable.
Jason Isaacs is the best part of “Star Trek: Discovery” and he was the best part of “Awake” too. He’s a fine actor and I hope he does better in picking his future roles.
And yes, please watch The Orville. :)
I like The Orville too. Decent acting and storyline’s considering it’s a comedy/Star Trek(ish) show and like the original Star Trek; there a lesson on morality or something in every episode.
I don’t always agree with the social justice warrior crap or the normalizing of Gay relationships so I force myself to ignore it and look past that nonsense like I do on other shows that pull that stuff.
Freaking Pedowood just can’t help itself. They have to push their perverted lifestyles on everyone whether we like it or not. Grrrr.
Thanks. I’ll check it out. :-)
((((Old TOS Fan))))
The new Star Trek is a lousy show. The actors do not help by not wanting the other actors from earlier shows on. Plus they all took a knee to support the NFL players support of cop killing.
I haven't kept up with it much, but every time I saw it when I was flipping channels, it always had a homosexual plot element going on.
Every single partial episode I saw had a homosexual angle to it. What is up with that? Could they just give it a break for one show?
I’ve watched every second of Star Trek ever made mutiple times (except the abrams films, they were awful). but i haven’t and won’t watch a moment of this show because of that.

“Nope...”

I don’t know if there is a reputable or reliable way to determine ratings on such web-only shows or if CBS has even released subscriber numbers for it.
At any rate, I suspect even Gene Roddenberry - who loved to milk ST for every possible penny - would be so disgusted that he’s spinning like Mixmaster in his grave over this embarrassment.
I honestly think people screaming bloody murder about this show, likely hasn’t even been watching it. Past the first episode, it isn’t even remotely worthy of the over the top scorn people seem to have almost rehearsed, especially those talking up that Orville show. That has all of the crap they say Discovery has, and isn’t shy about putting it in your face...yet they say Discovery is some ultra PC program.
I have not watched Discovery.
I have no particular fondness for this guy.
In fact what little I know of him, his politics stink.
But as for a critical analysis of the theatrical dynamic and the relation between the actors and audience, I don't think he could be more correct.
And I think the thing he's describing here has ruined many good shows. This is the insight of a person who actually views himself as a professional actor and has done due diligence in developing his own professionalism.
