I grew up reading about how Johnny Unitas shoveled coal when he was a kid.
Johnny U played semi-pro ball on rocky fields.
He was my hero.
Then comes old fu Manchu Joe and the Jets.
I don’t feel sorry for Jets fans.

And so my dad, who never met a sport he didnt know a single thing about, bought season tickets to the New York Jets.It wasnt the most ridiculous idea at the time.
A good idea. But why not the Giants? Or the Yankees? The Jets winning tradition is spotty at best.
Funny thing about NY though. I was in the city during the Cleveland series this post season. Every local I talked to ... none would say they were a Yankees fan. All stated they were Mets fans. Odd....

The Jets were coming off a surprise trip to the AFC Championship Game, led by a brash new coach and a hotshot young quarterback with the poise and charisma of Joe Namath.Heck I thought he was talking about Eric Mangini or Chad Pennington. The Jets have had a long line of next-great-things that never became next great things.

These were the years of lets go eat a goddamned snack and still-endearing foot fetish jokes, before the true nature of Rexs eventual Trump-shilling ineptitude had fully shown through. Trump-shilling ineptitude? WTF?

“Nothing could have filled the void of regret during that car ride home.”
A lifetime of emotions coursed through me when I read that line.

I find that Trump is splitting up my family but its OK.
The ones who like the President have quietly gathered into our own clique. Were getting together on Thanksgiving, for example, and there wont be any screaming arguments, I guarantee.
The Anti-Trump contingent can have dinner together, if they wish, or starve. We dont care. We know the conversation around their table would probably give us indigestion but were not worried since we wont be there.
I know its terrible to say such things about family, but isnt that sort of division what makes civil wars so tragic?
